Computer won't start

I have a Dell 4400. I went to get on the computer the other morning and all it does is keeps resetting to the microsoft page when it starting up. The little bar keeps floating across the area and then the computer shuts down and tries to restart again.

I forgot to add that the last night that I used the computer there were storms in the area and there was several of the big electrical lines of comed that came down and blocked Interstate 57 in Illinois. I do have a power surge protector on the computer - not sure if that would have something to do with it? I appreciate all the help!!

U have to reinstall the windows xp by using bootable xp cd with sp2. u have to format the c drive and reinstall it . the problem could be virus in ur computer. when u format the c drive the virus will be gone out. u can get the fresh os. and if u want the other drives the same take backups and reformat it all the other drives.
try using the os with latest antivirus software and update it regularly

These are signs of either a faulty video card, memory issues or a defective power supply. Im probably goona lead towards a bad power supply then I would try the rest. Any questions just email me again.

Good luck.

Bios pins where is correct placement on DELL 4400

Hello here is the homepage:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/Product/dimension-4400

To clear the CMOS values
1.Turn OFF the computer and unplug the Power cord.
2. If your motherboard uses jumpers move the jumper from pins 1-2(default) to pins 2-3. Keep the cap in this position for about 10-15 seconds, then move the cap back to its original position.
If you motherboard has only two pins for CMOS reset , then you may use use a metallic object like a wire to create a contact between the two pins for 10-15 seconds.
3.Plug the power cord and turn ON the computer .

The bios can also be set to reset, by removing the cmos battery.

Hope this will help you.

Dell Inspiron 530 won't start, CMOS

Sounds like the CMOS battery is dead. You will find this battery on the mother board. It is a round watch battery, pull it and take it to a store like Walmart to get a proper replacement. I bet if you check your system time, it is wrong too.

Will not go past Windows start up page, just freezes on Windows is starting up.

You probably need to run chkdsk.

You grab your (xp?) cd and put it in the drive, and have the computer boot from cd.

Choose repair when you have the option.

It should come to a C:>

Type chkdsk /r

When done, remove the CD and restart.

check power supply in back to see if you have on and off switch but you would'nt be the first with this problem from dell about the power supply going out meaning:

if you don't have nothing happening when your trying to boot the computer then it's the power supply, plug in computer power up and feel in back to see if the fan is blowing if nothing power supply is gone call dell.

Windows will only start in safe made after sp2 or 3 install

you likely have some software issue that prevents all the new services from loading, most likely it is related to the antivirus/security software.

try disabling all the non-MS Services and all statup items in MSConfig, if it starts normally with all this disabled, reenable them a few at a time until you find the offending software

START
Run
type "MSCONFIG" withou the quotes
click the services Tab
check "Hide all microsoft services"
click disable all
click Satrtup Tab
Disable all
OK
allow to restart

during startup you will see a screen that says you have made the changes, this is normal (when you are all done, check the don't show again)

once you have found what causes the issue, Google the startup item and uninstall the related software.

Hope this helps

Problems when installing sp2 on my dell 4400

Reboot and keep tapping on F8 into Safe Mode. You can select "Last known good configuration" or continue In safe mode and do a system restore to the day before you installed the SP3. To do a system restore, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System restore. Windows XP SP3 has some issues with certain programs giving the blue screen of death.
