Samsung HLN617W Screen Moved Up

Hello Folks,

I've recently purchased this set for cheap due to a screen issue. The screen seems to be "pushed up" leaving an approx 4 inch line @ the bottom. I can see that it has moved up because the top of the picture is missing the 4 inches. I've called Samsung Support, and was told it would be an easy fix for their hired tech. Is there any way to repair this myself??

Thanks

Dennis

Yes, you can repair it yourself. All you need is solder, solder wick, a capacitor checker rated at more than 1000uf and a screw driver.First, remove rear cover and locate vert. circuit. Check all 100uf capacitors around vertical output. Unsoldering one leg to remove from circuit so as to get a good reading. Replace leaky ones with equal value. Another possible cause for that is the convergence board. If you have colored shadows around the screen there is a small board up above main p.c.b. Simply replace it. Another thing to try is to access svc. menu and write down value of vert. hgt. Then change it back and forth to see if it is adjustable. this may be an easy, or difficult fix. Good luck, Russmann.

The problem is the DMD is misaligned.  If you take off the rear cover, you will see the back of the DMD/light engine.  There should be 3 screws (3 on the 50 inch anyways) holding a rectangular silver metal case. Loosen those and adjust so that the screen is correct.
FYI, the adjustments are reversed.  Up is down and left is right.

I have a HLN617W Samsung television. The picture shakes bad. When I put it on pip where you can watch 2 screens at one time, on the left is real shaky and the right is good for about 20 minutes and then it...

Two boards can cause that kind of problem in Samsung HL-N617W, either power supply or digital board.
Need to swap above said boards to confirm what board is causing problem or inspect closely for leaky electrolytic capacitors and replace them with same ratings.
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.

I replaced the color wheele in my Samsung HLN617W and when I got it put back together the picture was not centered in the screen The TV is a 61" DLP and it is a samsung.

When you replaced the color wheel it sounds like you took the DMD board out or you bumped it? Either way the DMD board will need to be realigned and that involves reaching into the TV while it is in normal operation. The DMD board in the one sitting right behind the digital bard and has a small fan facing the heat sink on it. There are three screws 2 on the left side on one on the lower right that need to be loosened just a bit and then with the set on you will have to move the board back and forth to achieve dead center. Remember from the back moving the board to the left moves the picture to the right and pushing down on that board will shift the picture upwards.

Samsung DLP HLN617W TV does not turn on, all 3 lights flash

In this case it seems you may have an issue with your ballast. Either it's going out or barely starting. I recommend you replace it

Samsung hln617w non power up

Most of the time when these sets won't turn off it's caused by the DMD but check the color wheel connectors first, especially the flat ribbon cable. Make sure it's in the connector in the correct direction, only has contacts on one side and make sure the ribbon is not torn.

Problem turning On

The lamp, ballast or dmd board can cause the same problem. Most commonly on these DLPs it is the lamp, but we have to use the process of elimination as well sometimes. Even as a samsung warranty center sometimes the flow charts don't help. The first thing I would do as a consumer is to vacuum around the ventilation holes behind set, these can cuase poor circulation and startup/shutduwn problems. Then with those type of lights flashing start by bidding for or buying the most inexpensive lamp you can get. Make sure exact replacement. Do not touch the glass on lamp when replacing. Then try the ballast which also has a part number on it and has only two screws when you have lamp removed from set. If still no luck, assume it is the dmd board and try pricing that baby. Not cheap! Then comes the decision. New set or repair this. This is what you can expect unfortunately. But I have the same set at home. Go figure.

Samsung HLN617W 61 i

it is not related to the failure of the fan or color wheel by anything other then the age of the set..the lamp has a normal life of 4000 to 6000 hours and since your set is around 3.5 years old it probably has that amount of time on it..the lamp is consumer replaceable and many places sell them..the lamp number should be on a small sticker on the side of the set
