Instructions for cleaning are located here. Look under the "Scanner glass and white scan backing" section.

Dust inside the scanner, showing up as hairs and dust on the preview

    Hello friend,
You must open your scanner and gently wipe the glass screen down with a cloth.. this should remove all dirt and make a clear scan.

When using the ADF for scanning to pdf, it creates black lines vertically down the left side of the document. If I use the flatbed scanner, no lines.

A dark line shows up through every scan. It is indistinct and shadowy, the same look as a hair stuck in your shutter would give in a film camera. It is perfectly straight and runs all the way from side to...

There is a 99% chance that there is a human/animal hair on the reader inside under the glass.

You should take a look with a flash light, if positive then open it to clean the system out.

How do i scan film on my scanner

You should be able to download the manual.

To scan film, you'll need to first remove the white cover on the underside of the scanner lid. That is where the backlight is. Also, you must be using the ScanGear driver and NOT the WIA driver. The WIA driver does not support film scanning. Locate your film guides. These are the templates that will hold the film and are placed on the scanner glass to be scanned. Lastly, there should be a Select Source option in the scanner driver that allows you to select Film as the source.

    Hope this helps.

    Dirty scans

Small white dots would indicate progressive failure of the CCD[sensor] or perhaps ingress of dirt to the inside of the glass. hard to say exactly with out seeing the machine.

    Print Problem - vertical lines

If the problem only occurs when using the document feeder, the problem is not usually caused by the drum. When using the document feeder, try to notice where the scanner (the light assembly under your scan glass)stops just before the paper is being fed. Some multifunction machines have a small piece of glass that is separate from the large scan glass and the scanner assembly stays parked underneith it as the original is being fed over it. Most likely there is something on the glass where the scanner parks as originals are being fed thru the feeder. When putting your original on the large scan glass to copy, the mark on the glass will only show as a spot, but will show as a vertical line thru the whole copy when using the feeder.
