Question about Canon LaserBase MF5630 All-In-One Printer

Open Question

Images suddenly become faint

Our photocopy images have suddenly become faint. We thought the machine needed a new toner cartridge, but a new one hasn't made any difference. Unfortunately we can't find the manual! Is there a diagnastic mode or similar we can access. (By the way we are a UK charity, so unfortunately, cannot take up your great value extended warranty offer)

Toner spills on papers, how do i solve it?

Is the toner still loose or is it fused to the paper?
If it's loose, you need to clean out the inside of the printer because toner was spilled inside. Don't use a regular vac, because you need a heppa type filter

If it's fused, there may be a couple reasons:
1) It could be a dirty fuser
2) It could be a failing toner cartridge, replace it

Based on your post, I would suggest replacing the toner cartridge first, as if the copies are faint, you are running out of toner.

I have a Xerox XC820. I am getting dark copies with residual images from previous copies. Toner appears to be adhering to the drum cartridge. Do I need a new drum cartridge?

I have a Xerox xc820. The drum kit needed to be replaced, which I did as well as put in a new toner cartridge. The pages are now coming out very dark. Prior to putting in the new drum kit and new toner cartridge, the machine ran fine. I have tried all I know how to do and to no avail. Have cleaned the "wire", all the parts I can get to and cleaned the plate. Any help would be appreciated.

Faint grey printing

According to the service manual for problems with light print image, the cause can be the Developers or High Voltage Power Supply (HVPS). Other possible causes are given as: Developer roller is stained when the toner or developer cartridge is almost consumed. Ambient temperature is below 10 degrees Centigrade. Bad contacts with the HVPS or abnormal output from the HVPS. To replace the Developers you would need to purchase a replacement Imaging Kit CLP-R300A. Any problems in the HVPS would require a factory repair.

Hi Len,

Thankyou for explaining you problem to me, it makes life a little easier when you have no hands but are equiped with the facts.

I too would normally think Drum/Toner or Carona but it seems you have covered those, the carona is in the drum but if you switch the drum and the marks dont change then that cant be the issue. Here is a LINK to the carona cleaning instructions and below I'll past a pic of the carona position.

If a good Brother branded toner doesn't fix it, and you have fitted a new sealed brother original drum and that doesn't fix it, there are only two possible things left, one is the fuser at the rear that melts the toner to the paper but I doubt that one because it usally leaves lumpy marks on paper surface, but you could get a touch and look at the two width of the machine rollers at the rear and see if the coating has come off the teflon roller.

What I think is your issue is there is toner dust on the laser lens, it is a **** 1-2cm wide running width of machine, it resides inside the machine about midway directly above carona slot, get a soft cloth and wipe the lens.

Let me know if the lens clean does the trick, otherwise it must be 2 lots of faulty toner but the image would change or two dirty carona's/worn drums but once again image would at least change.

Make sure you reset the drum counter, heres a (link) to how

Cheers Steve

Printed copies have ghost images on them. I have never had this problem before., It looks like the image printed twice - once fine and then faint horizontal lines, sometimes some of the previously printed...

1) try doing a full clean from within the menu on the printer, or within the computer software
2) You need to perform a half test. Put a sheet of paper on the manual feeder and do a config page from the information menu on the printer. When the back edge of the paper enters the printer, quickly open the toner door to stop the printing. Now remove the toner cartridge and look at the image below. If the defect is present, then the toner cartridge is the problem 99% of the time. There is a slight possibility that during the conditioning stage of the print process the drum of the toner is not being fully discharged so when the next stage takes places part of the previous image gets put on the toner cartridge again. Very rare. If the defect is not present then the fuser has an issue.

16 toner low

A laser printer needs toner to print, when this runs out the printer will print either blank or very faint images.
You need to replace the toner cartridge with a new one or a re-manufactured toner cartridges. Re-manufactured toner cartridges are cheaper than new toner cartridges for your model printer.

You can get a few more prints out of your toner cartridge by removing the toner cartridge from the printer and giving it a few horizontal shakes then place it back into the printer.

Despite new cartridge the black ink comes out very faint. Other colours are not affected.

34ffb5e.jpg If your printer prints like the above image, then the problem lies with the black developer blade. Each toner has a developer blade which is located in the imaging unit. As the printer is used, toner residue builds up on the developer blade causing the print to become faded. As the build up continues, the print almost becomes completely white.

This seems to be a very common problem with this printer judging by the number of complaints about samsung print quality problems that are posted here. The only way of fixing this is to buy a new imaging unit. This can get expensive typically around $100. Especially since the problem occurs way below the expected life of the imaging unit which Samsung said it is 20,000 images. Mine it started to fade around 5000 images.

If you are handy, you can clean the developer blades yourself. Go to this link http://losingambition.com/clp300imagefix/. It describes how to open your imaging unit and to clean the blades. It only takes about 15 minutes to do but you must be careful when you clean the blades and reinstalling them back into the developer. If you do it correctly, the image you get is as different as night and day. Hope this can help someone.
