NO it does not have to do with the acer. What type of router did you use. Most routers require that you know the IP address, the gateway, etc... you cannot simlpy plug cables in, you need to use the cd, sounds like the router was not configured properly, also you need to encrypt the router so no one STEALS your friends internet or worse see what they are doing online, most routers do not tell you how do this, best buy can do this in their store or come out to you. Its not as easy as people think.

Im trying to set up a wireless connection through my laptop with my cricket broadband connection, but every time i put the wpa2 passphrase in it says i have a bad connection, how do u turn off the security...

Hello, Every laptop that have seen usually has a way to view the available wireless networks that are around them, and sometimes they will say whether or not it is security enabled. I would use this program to try to gauge how your wireless system is doing, signal strength wise. Turning off your security won't affect your computer but it will allow anybody within it's range to get a signal for free to the internet and possibly your home network and computers including your files, so it really isn't a good idea to turn it off unless you do it only temporarily to allow yourself to troubleshoot this issue then turn it back on. WPA2 is the best security to use and WEP is the weakest. The strength can be increased by raising the router's antenna, putting the router up as high as it can go in the building, or by moving closer to it. I would try those first before turning off the security. If you insist on turning off the security, you will have to use the users manual either the one that came with it or go to the manufacturer's website to get a copy as there is a lot of ways to do this, and a lot of ways to screw it up too including shutting your self off of the network or internet and not get back on!
Good Luck! Rich L.

How come my sony vaio vgc-rb52 desktop goes on but i get no signal

if you are referring to the signal strength of your wireless internet, first try to turn off both devices your laptop and your wireless modem or router. Now if you have a portable usb broadband connection and the signal is showing weak or no signal at all call your internet provider so they can check if they have any server issues.

On my windows xp it says my internet is working but when i try and open a internet page it says it cannot load, please help

FIRST POSSIBLE SOLUTION: Determine which version of IE you have installed. To do so, click "Help" on the IE toolbar and then click "About Internet Explorer." The version will appear in a dialog box. Go to the Microsoft website and upgrade to IE version 7 if you are using an earlier version. By upgrading, you may be able to resolve your IE problems. Repair damaged files automatically using IE 7's "Reset" feature. Go to the "Tools" menu and click "Internet Options." Click on the "Advanced" tab. Click the "Reset" button. Close all other programs if asked, and then click "Reset" to confirm that you want to reset IE and repair the files. Use XP's System File Checker to resolve IE problems. Click "Start" and then "Run." In the "Open" box, type "sfc /scannow" and click "Go." The System File Checker will scan your computer, finding and repairing damaged or missing files. Restart your computer after the process is finished. Update Windows XP to make sure you have the most recent service pack installed. Go to the Microsoft Windows, check for any available updates and install them. SECOND POSSIBLE SOLUTION: Make sure your computer is not too far away from your wireless router and you have a good signal. By placing your mouse pointer over the wireless connection icon, located in the bottom right corner of your taskbar, you can check to see if your signal strength is good. Anything less than a good signal can cause intermittent connections. SOLUTION: You will need to relocate your wireless router closer to your computer. If you have a 2.4 GHz wireless home phone, take notice if you lose the internet connection when placing or receiving a call. These wireless phones interfere with wireless routers because they both operate on 2.4GHz frequencies. If this happens you need to power down the router and then turn it back on. This will happen occasionally but not all of the time. SOLUTION: (1) upgrade your wireless phone to 5.8GHz, (2) use a corded phone or (3) use a wired internet connection to your router. If steps 1 and 2 did not solve your internet connection, borrow a friend?s laptop with a wireless card and see if their laptop can connect to the internet. Be sure to set your friends wireless connection settings to the same settings that your wireless card is set to. If your friend?s laptop connects to the internet then you may have a bad wireless card. Try reconfiguring your wireless card settings before going out to purchase an external wireless card. If your friend?s laptop can?t connect to the internet, try resetting the router to the factory defaults. Change the settings on the wireless card to the same settings as the factory default on the wireless router. If this works you are back in business. If it does not work for either computer, the wireless portion of your router is bad. SOLUTION: Purchase a new router or use a wired connection to one of your router ports.

I'm attempting to setup my linksys Wireless-G broadband router up in my home as a secondary wireless router so that i can obtain wireless signal in my basement. I'm running an ethernet cable to it and it...

You have briefed about the hardware or physical connections but not the configuration of the wireless router. On the hardwired computer go RUN, type http://192.168.1.1 (best guess for Linksys' LAN url), then use 'Linksys' as the user name, 'admin' as the password and a web page will appear showing the configuration of wired, wireless, security, status, etc. Make sure that DHCP is selected if you are using cable, PPPoE for DSL or STATIC if you are connected to NORAD and know the IP address :). Regardless of the Layer 1 media you select you can select the STATUS tab, select DHCP then at the bottom of the screen click on the RELEASE button and watch the IP lists go to all zeros. Then click on the RENEW button and when you see real IP adresses appear (sometimes requires a second click) then open a browser. This should enable you to view wireless networks and associated signal strength. Other considerations are in Network settings for the particular NIC where you must ensure that the radio is enabled and that you have A, B, G or N enabled. Also in your firewall settings look at the LAN settings and a bunch of check boxes will be displayed -check them all as well as in the ICMP settings where a bunch more boxes will be displayed and check those. No OS was specified but many parameters can also be determined by going to RUN, type cmd, type ipconfig /all or ipconfig /? for command options. Well there's some food for thought. Enjoy!

Unable to connect Acer Aspire 7250 to wireless broadband router (Netgear)

no the empower wireless connection programme is very good but can be turned off if you wish to use Windows Wireless Zero Configuration, which may be better to try and solve the problem, if you right click on the network icon on taskbar do you get the local and internet bubble or the triangle warning sign?

If no warning, click on the connect to a network command and see if the router appears there.

If not click set up aconnection or network at the bottom of the window, then click set up a wireless router or access pont and follow the wizard, or click manually set up if you are the braver type and will have a go

If you get a warning sign i suspect the pc is trying to connect to the wrong type of encryption eg WEP when you have set WPA-PSK or visa versa or a wrongly typed passkey

Hello, I have a RCA digital broadband model #DHG535-2 modem from comcast, i recently purchased a Linksys wireless-g broadband router model #WRT54G2V1 The problem I am having is connecting from my laptop...

If your trying to connect wirelessly with your laptop make sure that you have the following information of the router;
1. Wireless network name or SSID
2. Wireless security settings; WEP 64/128 bit ot WPA

If your not familiar with the settings then you may need to access the setup page of your wireless router. Hardwire the laptop to the router or if you have a main computer that is already connected with an ethernet cable, open Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox or any web browser you are currently using. On the address bar type http://192.168.1.1 (router's default IP), then you will receive a pop up asking for a username and a password, there is no username and for the password type "admin" then click the Wireless tab on the router and check the basic wireless settings, if your not comportable with the settings then change the following; SSID - use a name that is easy to remember, Channel - 1,6, 11 is ideal, then for the Wireless Security choose WPA Personal and enter a 8 digit WPA Passphrase(pasword), remember to click save settings every tab that yuo go to or else the settings will na take effect. Then check if the laptop will detect the signal of the router and when it prompts you for a password or network key, just enter the 8 digit code that you have configured earlier.

If you have further questions regarding the setup of the router just post a reply and I'll to give you a response if my sched will allow me.

Hope this will atleast provide you with some idea in setting the router properly for your laptop.

Regards,

Have you accessed and setup your wireless part of the modem?

To access the router settings menu, you will first need to log into the Wireless router following the steps below:
Open Internet Explorer
In the address bar type the following address:
192.168.0.1

You will be prompted to enter a Username and Password to access the interface, please use the following default details:
Username: This can be found on the bottom of the router
Password: This can be found on the bottom of the router

From the list on the left hand side, click on ‘Router Status’.
Within the Router Status section there are two areas you will be able to access:

Show Statistics
Connection Status

The Router Status page gives you a detailed status overview of the connection configured on the Wireless router.
Click ‘Connection Status’ to see more information on the broadband connection.
If you have already configured your broadband, you are able to establish/terminate the connection by clicking Connect/Disconnect.
You can also click ‘Show Statistics’ to show you current connection speed and more information on your Broadband connection.
Clicking on Basic Settings enables you to check all the Internet settings of your Broadband connection. Including the Login name (username) and password, IP address and type of connection.
Clicking on ‘Test’ will perform a standard check of your Internet connection and settings.
ADSL SETTINGS
The ‘ADSL Settings’ section provides you with some more information about your Internet connection. These are:
Multiplexing Method
VPI
VCI
WIRELESS SETTINGS
This section gives you full information regarding the Wireless connection. From here, you can change security settings, the SSID (Name) of the router and the access control list. Options list from:
Name(SSID) virgin broadband (default)
Region Europe(default)
Channel 11(default)
Mode g&b(default)
Enable Wireless Access point
Allow broadcast name
Security options (None, WEP and WPA)
- hope this helps

My friend's asus A6000 has problems connecting to the wireless network. We have broadband at home, but his asus can only access it if it's physically plugged into the router. How can he get his asus to...

A couple of steps, not sure if you have tried them already

1) Ensure that his wireless is turned ON, it also need to be compliant with the router signal, normall b or g, it probably will be

2) In the system tray double click the wireless icon and make sure your network shows up. You may need to refresh. Then click the network and connect, you may need your password.

As i said, not sure what you have tried already, if this doesn't work or you need help with these write back.

Cheers
