Error message: battery cover open

error message: battery cover open. This message appears in the window and will not let me operate camera until problem is resolved. The cover is closed, but the message will not go away. I have re-set settings and changed memory card, but still get this message. HITACHI HDC 646E

Hi X,
There's a little piece of plastic on the battery cover, that presses a switch when you slide the cover closed. Check that manually with a tooth pick and the the battery in place. Don't smash it. I have a Olympus FE -280 and it only happens when I put the cheap Chinese battery in.
If you are in the least uncertain, call Customer Service.
