Hi,
dependant on operating system.
you should not need drivers for cd/dvd drives, as the standard drivers supplied with windows 2000-ME-XP should be sufficent to work the drive.
i,d suggest checking the driver jumper block at the rear of the drive, and seeing if it,s connecting as a master or slave drive, if it,s not being recognised by the system. if the hard-drive jumper ( Small plastic Block ) On the back of the drive is set as Slave, set the CD Drive as Master, or Vice-Versa.

make sure the dvd drive is getting power
you might have to physically unplug the plug you cd rom back in this should activate the found new harware wizard or you might try
control panel admistrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll cd/dvd rom drives right click you can update driver disable or uninstall select properties from there you can troubleshoot or select driver you can update roll back driver uninstall if at any time you see a yellow question mark? you need to install a driver
hope this helps
