No, unfortunately, you need windows media center on your pc to stream videos, music, and pictures from your pc to your Xbox. It kind of sucks I know, as windows media center isn't the most accurate of programs. Has a tendency to loose data. Also, since it is a windows platform, your Xbox will have issues playing certain types of media files. Hope this helps.

Sony VAIO VGC-RB38G PC Desktop needs the media center re-installed

I would seriously doubt that your kids know how to remove Media Center. Maybe they just removed the icon from the desktop. Click Start/My Computer and open the Local Disk C. Look for the Programs File Folder. If you are using Windows 7 or Windows Vista there might be two Program File folders (Program Files and Program Files (x86). Look thru the program files folders for the Windows Media Player Folder or Windows Media Center Folder. Open the folder and look for the Media Player. When you see the Icon you can Right Click on it and select Properties. If the Type of File in the properties windows says Application, that is probably the program that runs. You can close the properties window and double click on the icon and see if it runs.

If it runs, you can close it and go back into the folder and Right Click on the icon and select the option Sent To then select Desktop (create Short Cut). Right Click on it again and select option to Pin To Start Menu.

If you just want to download and install it again.
Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Download Media Player" or "Download Media Center" (without the quotes). Select a site from Microsoft that will download and install it.

Media Centre - uninstall?

Here is the main features of Media Center.

Media Center.M View your photos in a cinematic slide show, browse your music collection by cover art, easily play DVDs, watch and record TV shows, download movies, and project your home videos.
