2501 config problem

By Rachel007 - usenet poster

Hi,

I'm configuring a cisco 2501 and I have one problem.
everything seems to work ok, except about 15 seconds after booting the
router I get a message that line protocol is down (that 's serial 0 where
T1 is connected.)  I need to get this line up and running today, so if
anyone could help me, it's highly appreciated.

Thanks

While on the subject of FT100S here, I ran across a problem earlier
this week with one.  Our original CSU/DSU for a fractional line died,
so I hooked up a spare Cray RouterMate CSU/DSU, which worked fine.  We
ordered a new Motorola FT100S as a replacement.

Using the included DB-25<->V.35 adapter that came with the FT100S, I
hooked it up to our Portmaster 2ER with its DB-25->V.35 cable, and
set it up (4 x 64k channels, loop timing, b8zs, esf)... no go.  I double-
checked everything against the Cray configuration, still no go.  I put
the FT100S into DTE local loopback, turned on debugging on the Portmaster,
but never saw any "(LMI) Apparent loop" messages.

I find it hard to believe it is our cables, since they are the exact same
ones we used with the Cray CSU/DSU, and worked perfectly for a few days.

Am I missing something here, or is this brand new Motorola FUBARed?

Assuming you've got "SerialN is up, line protocol is down", first
eliminate the following:
        o mismatched encapsulation
        o improper serial cabling - e.g. Motorola's FT100S uses a proprietary
25-pin v.35 connection - often a standard DB25-RS530 adaptor is
mistakenly used as a substitute for the proprietary adaptor
o faulty DTE timing - if the cable connecting the router and DSU is
long, it may be necessary to set the DSU to receive DTE timing from the
router

Sounds like your CSU/DSU are not communicating ... what is the router at the
other end set for encap mode and have you confirmed that the T1 or whatever
is up and working

Sorry, DB25-RS530 should have read v.35-RS530.
