Exhaust Fan - Compressor turns off

I just received a brand new unit. At first when I realized that the compressor wouldn't open at all, I saw that the exhaust fan wasn't spinning. After giving the fan a push, the fan turned on to what it looks like it's full speed. However, the compressor turns off after a minute. The exhaust pipes are straight and there is no obstructions.

Thank you in advance.

Sounds like a fan motor problem, if the motor cuts out it will cause the compressor to overheat and shut it down. if
brand new you can probably exchange it . if not it can be repaired under warranty if less than a year old.

Details I have a problem with a Goodman Model GSH130601AA, ( 5 Ton, 13 Seer heat pump) central air unit, installed 06/15/2006. (I know, I saw online reviews but unit was put in before I saw negative e

The fan motor is bad and needs replaced. Depending on how mechanically inclined you are, you can replace it yourself fairly easy, the hardest part being the fan blade without a hub puller. Just take your old one in with you to a local A/C supply store. The compressor is more than likely kicked off on thermal protection because of the fan motor, happens every time. After the compressor cools back down, the overload kicks back in and the compressor will start. I would also replace the capacitor while I was there, just for preventive maintience because they go out all the time, plus they are cheap. Just make sure you have the full 220v to the unit before diagnosing the problem, and make sure it is completely off when working on it, capacitors hold a charge, just in case you didn't know already. As for the Goodman problem, people never give the full story behind these units. For one, it may say Goodman on the cover, but the motor and compressor are made by the same companies other brands use, just look at the compressor brand, probably a Copeland or a Bristol used in various brands. Two, the reason that there are more negative things said about these units are simple, more units sold, more people have them, there will obviously be more to talk about. Kind of like more money, more problems. Nothing is built like it was 15 to 20 years ago. Goodman keeps their price low by not advertising for the most part. And then you have units like Lennox that are supposed to be good, cost more to buy, and absolutely too expensive when repairing and finding parts. Just so you don't think I'm a Goodman rep or anything, I prefer American Standard equipment over anything else Ha! This is of course all from a service aspect from dealing with this everyday, but still just an opinion. I hope I have helped you and get you to cooler days, and sorry about going on and on, just thought you might like a view from someone on the inside! Have a good one and good luck!

Hello, you can Ohm the compressor windings with a multimeter. Just kill power the the unit, remove the wires from compressor and check each winding. You should have resistance, if not the windings are open and compressor must be replaced.

Problem #1:Outdoor condensing fan motor has stopped running. This problem could be caused by a bad motor run capacitor.
If your motor capacitor is not the problem, then more than likely you need a new motor. Is the fan blade tight, stiff or hard to turn? If the fan blade is hard to turn then you probably need a new motor. Problem #2: Air conditioner compressor will not start. When power is applied to the air conditioning outdoor unit the fan starts, but you hear a sound like the compressor is trying to start, "UGGG"..., for about 5 to 10 seconds and then all you hear is the outdoor condenser fan run. The compressor is locked and will not start. What is happening is the compressor is trying to start, but because the compressor motor is locked it tries to start for a few seconds and then because of the high amperage being drawn goes off on internal overload. The internal overload protects the compressor windings from overheating and burning up. I see this many times during the start of the air conditioning season. Some compressors just have a hard time starting after sitting all winter long. Some compressors are locked up so bad that I can not start them and must tell my customer that they need a new compressor . Many times I can get the compressor started again without having to buy a new compressor or new air conditioning system by using the device called, "Super-Boost." I keep two or three of these on the truck. They have saved many of my customers from having to buy new air conditioning systems.

Fan works but compressor does not start. Its a brand new unit

Hi!!
By fan woks you mean inside unit right? assuming so, check remote control settings and battery, set temp.to 70 degrees, a light should come on at the display and seconds later, the compressor should kick in. If Unit is brand new, it should be it. If split units, try another remote, some times those remotes show the display but do not send signal strong enough that the unit can receive it. Try getting closer to the unit.

Goodman ac unit is not cooling

If your uniy is not producing water then check if the compressor is running. Whether you have a central or a wall unit you will hear the compressor come on. There is a way to check the compressor by removing the compressor cover and wires then ohming out the compressor terminals. REMEMBER THE ORDER THAT YOU TOOK OFF THE WIRES. You,ll have run [R], start [S], and common [C] you should a reading across all three. If one or more do not show a reading then the compressor has an open winding. If all have readings then the compressor motor is ok. Check for burnt or broken wire which might have saw when you opened it. If the compressor is running then you are low on refrigerant.

LG LD65E humidity variance

Is the compressor running or is it just the fan? If its just the fan it is because it is cycling the air and it uses that air flow to check the humidity in the air. If the fan runs non-stop and the compressor does not turn on or the fan does not shut off there is a problem with this unit and you will need to replace it. Since it is brand new you should still be able to return it to the store.

Dehumidifier not dehumidifying ...

Save the old one for parts if you get the same new one but I def. don't reccomend buying this unit again. The reviews are bad. The fan is not covered under the warranty except first year or extented warranty. I spoke with Kenmore & Sears about this to see if coverd under 5 yr. Only compressor, tubing & refrigeration system(see inside of front cover for warranty info.)

Sound more like a sensor/circuit board problem to me since fan is turning. I think the signal determins which setting fan needs via sensor assembly to run. I could be wrong. Justa thought.

Can you def. hear the compressor come on. You can look through grill to see fan spin & the compressor makes a clank/clunking noise/ The fan & compressor should turn same time. Good luck! If you got any info. on my fan problem & you have update or fixed your problem I ccould use some help. Check post for my problem.. Thanks! panfan1
