Lexmark 5250 won't fax. I have installed everything several times but says something about OCR not working. It will scan & print instead of sending document to Fax. I can open Fax window, but...

Use the Lexmark All-In-One Center application to send faxes from your computer (make sure your computer is connected to a fax modem). From the Creative Tasks section of the All-In-One Main page, click Fax using PC modem. Follow the instructions on the computer screen.

I'm trying to fax some school papers to a college but it will not let talking bout that i have to install something in order for me to fax anything.

To send fax using the Lexmark X2500, the printer has to be connected to a computer with a fax modem. The Lexmark Fax Solutions software must be installed on your computer. The software is available on the installation disc that comes with your printer.

HP USB Modem does not break dial tone

If the information connected to your post is all correct (56k V90 usb), and you are using one line for both the internet and the fax, you should hang up from the internet before you try to dial out the fax.

You have not indicated your PC model, so I don't know what operating system you are using. For XP and newer versions, you have to set up and configure the fax using the wizard or configuration software. If you have not done that yet, you need to.

In xp, go to start, Programs , Accessories , Communication , Fax , and then click Fax Console.

You said your computer is new. Win 7 and Vista are much the same:

1.Click the Start button , click All Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.

2.At the bottom of the left pane, click Fax, and then click New Fax on the toolbar to launch the Fax Setup wizard.

3.Click Connect to a fax modem and follow the instructions.

You also need to make sure that your fax/modem is correctly listed in the control panel. In XP, start, control panel, printers and devices. If you do not have a fax printer listed, you need to "install a local fax printer."

The installation wizard should work in both OS without much trouble. If you do have difficulty, Microsoft and adobe both have "virtual printers" you can use. Look in Microsoft office or online.

Also check control panel of 7 to make sure that your modem and fax are listed correctly. Thanks for using Fixya.

I am trying to use the fax facility on my epson600fw.my isp is aol .Problem no dial tone. What connections are necessary............via printer, modem & computer ?

Typically, a fax machine is connected directly to a telephone wall jack with a known working connection. Try plugging the fax machine directly into a wall jack first and pick up the handset on the fax machine if it has one. You should get a dial tone. Then try to fax something to someone you know.

The machine can also usually be routed through the modem in a computer by connecting the "line" cord on the modem to the wall jack and plugging the fax machine into the the "phone" jack on the modem. You may need to install the software that came with the fax machine to get this to work.

If you have no dial tone, check the wall jack with a known to be working single line phone. If there is a dial tone, it's something to do with fax machine, the computer modem or the connections.

Some fax machines can take advantage of internet faxing through a cable modem or DSL connection. Check your manual for the options available.

Dell printer A940 fax trouble

Unless you have 'VOIP' telephone service with Comcast, your FAX will connect through your home's telephone line, not the internet (or modem). You would connect your phone line to the all-in-one printer, then follow Dell's instructions for use. Good luck!

Connect fax from 6210 to phone via cable modem (VoIP)

In Order to use a Fax functionality of the router you need to connect the small RJ11 cable for telephones on the printer port. These printers do not suppoer VOIP Fax. To use VOIP as fax you can purchase a online VOIP subscription where you can scan and fax the documents.

I can only send faxes and not receive them

As far as point 1, you might want to check out this web page at HP.com:

Faxes can be received but not sent

Point 2. I have two "out" phone ports on my ADSL modem. I use one to plug it the 6110 into the modem. I do have an ADSL filter one one of my phone jacks. but I believe the modem contains one as well for phone devices directly connected to it.

Point 3. Yes. Obviously, if you are on a phone call, you won't be able to receive a fax, but if no phone call is in progress, a fax can come in just fine. Having a fax machine is just like having more than one phone in the house.

Hope this helps. Post your results back here. Good luck.
