LG 47" 47LG50

By sgoad1 on Jun 12, 2008

" "
I just bought this LG TV a couple of days ago. I have noticed some faint lines rolling up the screen on a dark picture. I have hd cable and HD AV cables connecting the cable box to the TV. I have the same setup with my Xbox 360 and I do not see the lines. Would this be an interference or bad cables or the TV?

Same Problem

-   I have the same problem with my 47LG50.
My problem occurs regardless of the input selected though.
I figured out that a gentle tap to the lower right corner backside of the tv causes the horizontal scrolling to stop but of course it comes right back
a few hours to a day later.

47LG50 issues with Main board Very soon the Main board of my 47LG50 will be replaced by LG's local support personnel,

My advice would be to stay away from this series of LCD TV, and if you already made a mistake then I would suggest test everything, all connection combinations (HDMI, AV, Component, USB connecting cable box, dvd, game console) before your warranty expires.

LG's Canadian 1-888 support centre is not efficiant. They only open till 6:00pm Monday to Friday no weekends after that the calls are routed to US, and I think these guys are not technically trained, there is no 2nd level support, they are just sitting there trying to lower your BP.

Mine issues was with HDMI connection, I was getting screen flickers and horizontal lines in-between when watching DVD (also from LG), with either 760p, 1080i or 1080p settings, works fine only with 480p setting, however this is not an ture HD. The support centre guy told me to get the higher end of HDMI cable, next day went into store paid $150 and brought good cable, no relief, same issues, however next day while watching cable TV, after every 30 sec. the screen becomes blank, no picture and sound and this keeps repeating. Tested with AV cable there is no issue. So now LG is replacing the Main board and I wish my nigthmare from past 8 weeks will come to an end.

Also, here I would like to add related to Futureshop, once the sales guy got their commission from your purchase and if you havent' brought the extended warranty plan offered by Futureshop then you are alone with all your problems. The Futureshop will bluetly tell you we are sorry, contact the manufacturer.

Lesson learned, before making any big purchse think about all pit-falls.

Most likely it is not the TV; it's a grounding problem. Are all your devices plugged into the same power strip? They should be. Can you plug that power strip in to another outlet in the wall (even with an extension cord, just for testing purposes)? If that removes the lines, leave it plugged in there. If you can't leave it plugged in there, you'll need an isolator like the Jensen VRD-1FF or similar.
Hope this helps!
