My camera gives me a blue screen with the error message, "Read only memory card, remove write protection to capture or write to card." I don't know how to fix it or how to get it off my camera. I am only able to look at my photos in review, but not take any or delete the ones i have stored. It wont let me do anything, none of the buttons work, it just stays on that screen unless i press the review button, then I can just look at my pictures. I thought it was just a problem with my SD memory card, but i took the card out and put it in my mom's camera and it worked fine, her card also worked fine in mine and i was able to take photos and delete them. So I'm assuming it is something with the card in my camera. I tried looking through the manual but can't find anything about it...

Re: Kodak M853 error message
My first inclination was that maybe the lock on the side of the SD card was on but after you mentioned that it worked in your mom's camera, I don't think that's the case. You may want to check that though. There's a little switch on the side and just make sure that it's switched to the "unlock" side.
The only other thing would be to format the memory card. When you do that, you will lose all the pictures on it. So, if it happens to work in ***********'s camera, I would transfer the pictures you already have saved on there and copy them to a cd before formatting the memory card.
In order to format your memory card, press the menu button, then go into the setup menu. There should be a list of settings. Scroll down to the format option and choose to format the memory card.

To understand the photo loss situation, consider a scenario: You format a memory card in Digital Camera, and start to capture some pictures. However, while capturing pictures, your camera shuts down due to low battery. Now, after recharging battery, when you try to access those photograph on the card, you receive the following error message on camera screen:
The Card requires formatting: Additionally, the camera is unable to capture any new photographs.
The main cause for the above error message is corruption of memory card due to conking of battery while a read/write operation was running.
These memory card needs to be formatted before you save any new pictures. It is always a good practice to take backup of card and format it before use. This enables you to fight with any damage done to the memory card and to erase the old data saved on the card. However, the probability of card getting corrupted again (after you have saved new data) still exists.
First try formating with an external SD Card reader connected at PC and test it.
Welcome to Fixya, possible reason why the memory card doesn't read by your camera are memory card is not yet formatted, memory card is in write protection mode, memory card requires cleaning, memory card was damaged, memory card is not compatible.
I have here the manual of your camera where you can check all error message and warning signs, together with their solutions. Just click here and please refer to page 156.
You may have deleted a system file. Easiest way to fix it if this is the problem is to reformat the card in the camera. Insert the card and look for the utilities section and then reformat card or format card. I don;t have the manual in front of me to give you the exact page but all digital cameras can do this. This will setup the card and put any missing files back where they belong again and you should be up and running. Will take longer to read this than it takes to do it too ;-]
Does this camera take a memory card, separate from the built-in memory of the camera? If so, remove that memory card and look closely at all sides and edges, to make sure that there is not a read-only protection switch on it.
Many of these memory cards have tiny switches, sliders back and forth, that protect the memory from being erased.
If you slid that switch into the locked position without being aware that it is there, and without knowing that you did, then the error message makes sense.
Remove the memory card and look at it very carefully.
First step involves that you check if the memory card is password protected or not.if yes remove it and then try.this time it will work definitely .memory which are password protected are not accessed by computer and sometime you can get blue screen error also.so first remove password from memory card....let me know if this works
Hmmm, I'm thinkin' if there's no memory card in camera, there are NO memories, aka formerly known as photos.
Unless there is some sort of an internal memory, but me thinks not.
As for error message, might be because....card fell out while an image was being captured.
