I do not think the Dog broke anything. I do think though the Optical Block assembly needs to be replaced to fix the problem. Do to the cost of repair, I would contact Hitachi to see if they could assist you in the cost and recommending a Service Facility near you to do the work.
I hope this helps,
Hi, magic focus button is behind a small door on the front of the set just below the screen, I don`t think it is going to help I believe your convergence IC`s have failed, try pushing it once and let it finish, if still 3d image you need to call a tv tech, good luck, video-tek
Since this is a CRT based projection set, there is no "lamp" involved. Does the picture look like 3-D? If so, the problem is likely to be a convergence problem. There should be 1 or 2 convergence ICs marked STK392-110 inside attached to a heatsink. If you can solder, try resoldering the pins on those ICs. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace them.
the convergence Ics you can get replacement ics at the following link and they will give free instalation instructions with pics so you can do the repair yourself.Heres the link. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
Usually this occurs when the Convergence ICs go bad along with some chemical fuses mounted on the deflection board. E994 usually blows along with the Horizontal out transistor going bad. This transistor, I believe is Q777 that usually goes bad. The fuses are either tiny little yellow fuse with a red band or green with a yellow band depending on your model number
