Question about Samsung DVDR120 DVD Recorder

1 Answer

Samsung DVD recorder R122 spits out discs randomly

Had this dvd player for nearly two years, it's British and I multiregioned it. All was good until little fingers managed to set the scanning button going and now it picks and chooses which regioned disc it wants to play. If it doesn't like it, it says can neither play nor record and spits it out. It will play some Pal 2 and Pal 4 but completely randomly. I can't find a multiregion hack for it in case the scanning thing knocked out the hack and I can't find the instruction manual for any clues. I bow to your infinite wisdom.....please can you help.

My Samsung DVDR120 will not accept any new DVD-RW discs. I have tried Maxell, Memorex and SONY. They all either freeze at 85% initialization or formatting, or spit out saying system error. The machine is 4...

This is a common fault and usualy caused by the DVD drive going faulty, The Lazer changes angle as it records across the disc and at about 80% there is a change point.

I suggest putting a cleaner DVD through the unit before you try anything else as a bit of dust can cause that problem. If that doesn't fix it than you may need to change the DVD loader unit as a whole or as you suggested by a new modern unit with even more features.

How to finalise dvd recording

Press the menu button on your remote - go to finalize disc - follow instructions. Note that VR discs can be played with many if not most DVD-players without finalizing. In fact I have had problems finalizing and unfinalizing discs back and forth. If the disc manager displays only unfinalize disc, the disc is already finalized.

DVD recoder not recording

I had this problem with my R120, it first wouldn't record and eventually wouldn't play, just gave either an error message or "wrong disc.' Then, another DVD player I own did the same thing.

What worked? I opened them both up and swabbed the laser lens with alcohol and then the clean end of the cotton swab. Now both work like a charm. I figure that all the dirty rental DVDs lowly drop dust and gunk and over a few months the build-up caused failure.

Just to be safe, I also used canned air to remove from inside the unit, around the circuit board and on the lens.

I'd advise leaving the unit unplugged for a day or more to let any stored energy drain and if you're not familiar with safety procedures, take it to someone who is.
