First make sure the coupler has engaged properly. Then lower the motor enough to engage the bottom clamp. Then with your thumb on the motor shaft and other fingers on the top of the motor, lift the motor and engage the top clamp.

I just changed the coupling on a kenmore series 80 washer. When the new coupling was in place(before putting the clips back on) the motor and gear box spindle (axle) turned freely by hand as I held...

If the holes and plastic prongs on the coupler aren't aligned correctly the rubber piece can be deformed.

I'd pull the pump and motor and make sure that the holes and prongs are installed correctly.

You shouldn't need any pressure at all to get the motor back on and the clips hooked up.

Make sure that the flat pieces on the plastic parts are on the motor and transmission shafts

I have a Kenmore Heavy Duty 70 Series Extra Capacity Plus Washer and it won't spin or agitate, but it does empty water out. How can it be fixed? We can't even find a diagram of it or match the model number...

If this is a Kenmore Top Loader washing machine, it sounds like you have a broken motor coupling. The washer filling and draining, but no agitation and spin are common symptoms with this problem. There may also be a rattling or whirring sound as the drive motor attempts to engage.

NOTE: If the washer drains, the drive motor is working. This drain pump on this washer is driven by the drive motor.

The motor coupling is located between the back side of the drive motor and the gearcase (transmission). The coupling is used in place of a drive belt, which is why this type of washer is referred to as a "direct drive". The following link explains how to access and replace the motor coupling:

The part number is included with the link and can be purchased at for about $11. I have included an illustration of what the coupler looks like below.

If the motor coupling is intact upon inspection, the other source of no agitation and spin would be the gearcase. The gearcase on these washers is fairly simple to replace. If you narrow it down to a failed gearcase, the next link explains the steps for replacing one:

I could only find your model number referenced at The gearcase on their site lists for about $160 and is listed as item 423.

I could not find any exploded view diagrams of your washer, but the majority of all Kenmore and Whirlpool top loaders are designed with the same direct drive system. You can purchase a Direct-Drive Repair Manual at for about $20 (Item number 1170635) if you need a guide for reference.

If you have any questions about this repair, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope I've given you enough to work with in trying to narrow down the cause of your problem.

Kenmore washer 11092597200 does not spin and has high pitch whining noise

I have attached a link to sears website and an exploded view of motor, pump and gear box. The weak link in a Kenmore washer is the coupling. Part number 13 in this view. If the machine is empty, you can check the coupling by unplugging power, disconnect water and lay machine on back. Or if strong help is available, pul machine foward, tip back and locate the coupler between motor and gear box. If it's bad it is time consuming but actually easy to change. If repairman is called, part $17.95, labor about $90.00. Inspect and let me know, I've changed many. Good luck.

Kenmore 20692 top load washer won't spin. The

This is most likely a motor coupling. Pull washer towards you about two feet tilt back, look at floor for black sute. The coupling is attached to the motor to the transmission. It cost about 15.00 and takes a novice less than an hour. There are two 1/4 inch srews, one on top one on bottom , remove these use a scwrew driver to pop off the clips, pry off coupling on both side and replace.
