this is a usb drive, the computer does not know you have an external drive, cause there is no operating system to be able to read it.
if you need to install a new Windows 7 on your computer, and you don't have an internal CD/DVD reader, i suggest you try to install it from a USB. refer to these links for more information: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dd535816.aspx and: http://www.pcworld.com/article/165159/install_windows_7_from_an_external_hard_drive.html
Then, after you install the Windows 7 first, then you will be able to install the Pioneer DVR-XD10 and use it. I don't think you can do it the other way around.
The error message "Target drive not ready" indicates that there is a problem with the blank disc inside the writer drive(s) of the duplicator. In order to solve this problem, please insert brand-new blank media into the writer drive(s) and press the ENT/OK button twice on the duplicator. what operating system? If windows XP, be sure you are the administrator of the machine. What is the error message? Try to uninstall the the previous device driver of the cdrom and have it automatically detect the new drive...then retry the suite installation. pls give feedback
First check the program you are using has selected the dvd-rom drive on pc.
If its selected and its still a problem then try changing to different brand of blank DVDR . I have used Tuffdisc , Bulkpaq, Datasafe, and Verbatim and few others on similar model Pioneer DVD writer and it works fine.
sometimes it depends on what kind of dvd-r you buy because they have DVD+R DVD-R DVD-DL ect it might also depend on the brand of the dvd-r most of the time the more exspencive ones work better Like sony or memorex
Try the drive in another machine to isolate the problem. If the drive works and its your system you may have to do the following
Update your BIOS
Place the drive on the other IDE channel. If there is only one IDE channel on your system board it sounds like you already have the jumpers set properly.
If this is an older system you may only have a 40 pin cable, make sure you have a new IDE cable. The cable may also be damaged.
Check the power to the drive.
If none of that works and it is working but absolutly not compatable with your hardware you could purchase an external enclosure for it and connect it with the USB or Firewire.
yes your quite correct, starforce once installed can damage the fimware more so for multi writers, a common problem will be slower recording speeds.
It can even damage the hardware itself and render the writer totally useless.
If your getting to that stage, for the price of a new writer, it's not worth the worry, replacing the drive is the only answer.
