Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook
Hi...My laptop cer aspire 5570 2067 showed msg 14mins left on battery so I plugged in the cord. After a while the computer went dead. It is less than 1 year old. I had a lot of company (with an extra dog) for a week and guest used comuter all the time. I have most always used it with the cord plugged in. I think the pin is pushed back in and the cord is not connecting correctly so laptop is not getting power. The pin is very wobbly also. I am a computer user and by no means any type of hardware person. Best Buy was of no use to me and tried to get me to purchase a new computer. I searched eBay and see a new jack can be purchased quite cheaply ($10.00). My question...can a stay at home mom install this jack? What is involved in the installation? Any help would be grealy appreciated!
A stay at home mom can do this if she has the skills and the time. I do not know if you want to tackle the job or not. I will explain what has to be done. You can decide if you can do it or not. You do not have to buy any computer parts either. It is a shame that the Geek Squad does not know how to fix this. They are supposed to know Everything. I have had to do this myself recently so I kept notes. I hope that you have the manual. If you do not have it you can download it from the site. Sometimes they will have all of the steps to take it apart. If you can not do it, maybe you can take these notes to the Geek squad and see if they can follow directions. I am sure that you a good with directions but this is not easy. You can look at it this way, it does not work right now before you try this.
LAPTOP POWER UNSOLDERED
Sounds like your power plug has come desoldered. This is internal and will have to be taken apart to repair. If you are comfortable with taking it apart you can repair it yourself. If you have not ever soldered anything before, or taken a laptop apart before you need to have someone else do it.
If you decide to do it yourself you will need the instruction manual to locate all of the screws. You will need a soldering iron and a camera along with a pencil and paper to draw a diagram and take notes. Laptops have a lot of fragile parts in them that will break. Do not do this if you do not know how. This is something that a qualified tech should do. You will see the plug and you will need to re-solder on back onto the board. One wrong move and you could damage the entire computer. If you try to do this yourself you are on your own and I am not responsible nor is anyone else.
Most of them have a break down on how to take it apart. The best thing that I can tell you is below. The only thing to do if you do not have the manual is to find a screw and take them out one by one. There should be a way to pop off the top part above the keyboard. You pry on both sides and it should pop up to get under it. The keyboard should pop up from the bottom. All laptops are not the same. Just be very careful, but if you are not sure that you can do it, leave it alone. I could do it because I have done it before. Step by step directions without being there is very hard to do.
I hope that this fixes your laptop, or at least you can show these directions to someone who can.
I am here if you have any more questions.

I have the same laptop and encounter with the same problem. There is a video on youtube thats gives step by step instructions to dismantle your acer 5570 laptop. The other important part is that if you dont know how to solder, dont worry about it because acer 5570 laptop comes with a daughter circuit board that is only there for Usb and power. So when you will dismantle the laptop you will see this board attach on the side. Replace this board and your problem is solved.
