My brother hl-2040 is about two years old, it worked fine up till now, first i thought there's no connection to the computer so i tried turning it off and on again etc.. restart... resetting, reinstalling etc... the green "ready" light goes off if i turn the printer on but it wont stay, if been fiddling and i sometimes manage to print a few pages but then the printer stops again. i wonder if the printer heats up to much or why this happens? i need to print my scripts :-(

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".
This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.
have you check you toner, it has a white strap, you need to strip it to open the nozzle of your toner. but before you do that you need to shake it first to have a sharp print out before you would strip that white strap. have a nice day
Could be that there are a mark on the drum itself or some dirt, remove the drum unit and inspect the surface , by rotating the drum , becareful not to touch the drum as it will leave marks on the surface
