I would say your small signal module is bad. This is the board with the convergence ICs. Have a tech or yourself pull the board out and replace the ICs and some resistors. Checkout They will have your model and its symptoms. Hope to guide you in the right direction!

Magnavox rear proj (model# 8p6044 c102) pic is cloudy/green tint

Yes the coolant gets crud buildup in it over time which will cause the color and clarity to get very poor with obects that will glow around certain bright ojects. You can get the Phillips CRT coolant replacement kit from which has the CRT coolant for all 3 CRTs and also includes the Cd with instructions on how to do the replacement.

I have a Philips Magnavox ptv843 and it has a red tint. The picture is really dark, I can hardly see anything in dark seens. I tried to adjust the contrast and brightness but no help. Thanks

These TV's are known for polluted coolant in the picture tubes. The coolant is between the lense and the tube. The factory has a Service Bulletin about this problem and they say to change the coolant in each picture tube. This will make the TV look like it did when it was new.

Picture is really dark

sounds like one of two problems. first could be that the color convergenge chips on the circuit board have gone bad. the parts themselves are not very expensive, but a shop will charge upwards of 300 dollars in labor to do the repair. if you can solder, you could probably do it yourself. second problem it could be is a bad picture tube, but that seems unlikely since they usually last upwards of 20 years before getting weak or dim. if you are located near portland, oregon, i can do the work for you for much less. if you have any questions, please send me an email at

Dim picture

If decide to do yourself, ya only have to do the green and blue ones, the red light spectrum won't allow fungal growth. Pull whole CRT assembly out to prevent spilled/leaking glycol from onto lower main boards
