Kenmoore 22442 Washer will not drain or spin

Went to do clothes th eother day and started the washer, came back an hour later and found cycle button at Spin cycle and washer full of water. Tried chnaging dial to another setting and nothing happens, so the washer can agitate, but thats it. Have since drained water out, but want to know if worth trying to fix on my own or just go get another washer? I am kinda handy, so if I can fix it, need step by step instructions please.

Thanks,

Steve

I have been having the same problem. The washer got off balance, I took what was in there out and now it won't do anything. It makes no noise whatsoever, not even when I close the lid.

I have the same problem and a friend who is a former repairman for Sears said 99 out of a 100, it's the lid switch. It should make a clicking noise when ingaged.

Does your lid make a click sound when the lid is closed? You may have a bad/ loose lid switch. Does it make any noise when you start the machine on spin? The other posibility is a bad timer but get back to me with the other 2 questions before we go there. :)

Maytag Neptune washer machine won't spin or fully drain

    • 1 Open your home's breaker box and flip the circuit breaker switch to "On." If it is already set to "On," flip it to "Off" and then back to "On" to reset it. A power surge may have interrupted your wash cycle so the drain/spin cycle never actually started.
    • 2 Move the washer away from the wall and straighten the drain hose if it is twisted or turned in a way that makes it difficult for water to flow through it. Replace a kinked hose with a new hose.

    • 3 Push on the washer door to make sure it is fully closed. The washer will not drain or spin unless the door is closed tight. Press the "Start/Pause" button after you close the door.
    • 4 Wait for about 30 seconds after you press "Start/Pause." The washer will not operate until it has been able to fully lock the door and restart the drain process.
    • 5 Run the clothes through a complete cycle again, making sure you use cold water if there are a lot of suds in the washer. Too much soap in the washer can make it hard to drain. Use high-efficiency or low-sudsing detergents on subsequent uses.

Wont drain

First Try Unplugging the washer for 15 minutes. Sounds like the pump is the issue. Was it a normal load of clothes or a Bath rug or blanket? After you plug the unit in try to select rinse/drain Or drain/spin.
If it starts try to cancel the cycle. The washer should drain the water out for you. Pls update when you can.

Kenmore 90 Series, year 2000 Came back to put clothes in dryer and found that the clothes were still wet, not spun wet, but wet where I could wring water out of them. I hear the motor running, and the...

The clothes are wet after spinning When the clothes are wet at the end of a cycle, check these: Motor coupler Spin cycle Siphoning Water-inlet valve Motor coupler To test the motor coupler, re-start the washer in its spin cycle. Let the machine run for a minute, and then open the lid and notice whether the tub is spinning: If it's spinning when you lift the lid, the coupler is fine. If it isn't spinning--and your machine was produced by Whirlpool®--you may have a broken coupler. Many Whirlpool-made washers use a small, relatively inexpensive device called a motor coupling. This plastic-and-rubber component is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. When that happens, you need to replace it completely. Spin cycle If the washer doesn't reach its proper spin speed, the clothes may be too wet at the end of a cycle. Check to be sure the load is properly balanced and run a spin cycle again. If the clothes are still wet, you may have a worn or loose belt (Maytag®), a worn clutch (GE®/Hotpoint®), or a worn motor pulley or tub bearing. Replace the applicable component. Alternatively, there could be clothes caught between the inner and outer tubs. Read the "It spins but won't pump" section of the "It won't drain" section. Also, there could be other things that cause friction on the drive train. Seek the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician. Siphoning If the water that pumps from the machine goes right back into the machine after the spin cycle, it may be because your washer is siphoning the water from a laundry tub with a slow drain, back into the washer. Try to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is there something stuck in the drain?) Also, be sure the drain hose doesn't reach more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub. If it does, cut off the excess. Water-inlet valve Water-inlet valves eventually fail. One problem that may develop with a water-inlet valve is that it can no longer completely shut off when the electricity is turned off to it. Then, the valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub--you may notice that your washer has water in it when you haven't used it for a few days. To fix this, replace the valve.

I had the same problem.....The start/pause button would flash during a cycle and the washer would not finish the cycle. After reading on this forum that there is a filter/strainer inline with the drain, I tried this solution.
Remove the (3) screws that hold the lower front panel (Just below the door)
Once the panel is removed, you should see a white plastic strainer hooked to the washer drain.

Please a large bowl under the opening and unscrew the knob/handle, pull the filter/strainer out and clean all of the lint/trash out of this area.

My filter/strainer was clogged with a baby sock, 2 doilies, a fewe pennies, 2 dimes and lot's of lint.
I believe all of this debris was causing musty odors in the machine as the lint would stink due to dampness.

Once I cleared out this filter/strainer the problem and my odors went away
I wish GE would add this "EASY" step into the owners manual for proper care and maintenace.

Thank you for letting me know about this filter/strainer as it did resolve my problem
