DVD Drive disappears after install of iTunes and restart

Whenever I download and install the latest version of iTunes, my computer will not recognize my DVD drive after restarting. It doesn't show up in "My Computer". It's not even recognized by any of my other burning programs.

I have to uninstall iTunes and restart my computer, then my DVD drive reappears.

I have a Dell computer with Windows Vista. It has all of the current updates available.

What can I do to resolve this?

This is a rather nasty little bug. You actually have to go into the Registry editor to fix this one up.  If you're not experienced, be careful with this or you could stuff up your computer  (good idea to make a backup copy of the reigstry before changing anything).

Go to Start --> Run --> type "regedit"

1. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
2. Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.
3. Expand Control, and then expand Class.
4. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
5. In the right pane (topic area), click UpperFilters.  6. Remove the UpperFilters entry. 7. Save changes
Boot your computer and all should be well.

ITunes will not recognize my Ipod MA444LL

There are many reasons why iTunes will not recognize your iPod, whether it's dust or dirt blocking your dock connector or a system setting gone wrong. No matter what model iPod you have, here are a few suggestions for helping the problem of iTunes not recognizing iPod:
  1. Generally speaking, when iTunes does not recognize iPhone, it may have something to do with the version of iTunes. If you are using an old version of iTunes on your computer, it may not be capable of recognizing your iOS devices. So updating iTunes to the latest version is a fastest way to get the problem solved.
  2. If you are running iTunes in the latest version, but still can't get your iPod recognized, you may want to take a look at your computer, sometimes if your computer lacks necessary software, it might lead to the malfunction of iTunes.
  3. USB port on your computer can be another reason why iPod not recognized by iTunes. So you can try more than one USB port to see whether the USB port works well.
  4. Of course, your iPod may also be the cause of iTunes not recognizing iPod. At this moment, you can restart your iPod by holding the Sleep/Wake button and Home button at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then connect iPod to computer with USB cable again.
  5. You should also make sure your iPod trusts your computer, because after changing a new system on computer, your iPod will regard it as a new computer. What's more, you should check out whether Apple Mobile Device Support is installed on computer.
  6. After checking out all the aspects mentioned above, you can try to connect iPod to computer with the USB cable again.

I have a 5th generation iPod Nano. I've had it less than one year, and now whenever I plug it into my computer with the USB cord that came with it, my computer says "USB device not recognized" and that the...

  • Check system requirements. - iPod nano (5th generation) requires the following minimum versions of Windows: either Windows XP (Service Pack 3 or later), Vista or Windows 7. If you have one of these versions of Windows, verify that Windows is fully up to date by downloading and installing software updates from Microsoft. If you have Windows XP with Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Windows XP Service Pack 2, download and install Service Pack 3 using Windows Update.

  • iTunes online? - Confirm that iTunes has been downloaded and installed.

  • AMDS online? - iPod nano requires Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS), which should be automatically installed with iTunes. To verify whether it is installed, click Start > Control Panel. Open the Add or Remove Programs control panel and verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is visible in the list of currently installed programs. If it is not, remove and reinstall iTunes.

  • Check USB connection. - Disconnect all USB devices from the system with the exception of the iPod nano and any USB keyboard and mouse. Then restart your computer. Verify that you are using a high-powered USB 2.0 port. Test with an alternate iPod USB cable if one is available.

  • AMDS - Re-verify that AMDS is running and installed.

  • iTunes usage - Remove and reinstall iTunes.
hope this helps

My I-pod nano 2G won't sync!!

download the latest version of itunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ (your music will be saved within the itunes music folder already). Once it has loaded okay close the itunes program. Turn your ipod on and plug it into your computer. This will automatically open up itunes. Reset your ipod within itunes under your ipod settings. Then update your ipod with your chosen library or playlist.

Hope this helps.
