We have it networked. Each computer can only set up one folder so we use one computer for black & white and another for color (lame, right?) On one of the computers, it refuses to add it to the device. I have uninstalled, reinstalled. We have had several problems with the scanning feature, it has, on several occasions, wiped out scan to settings

like Ricoh or Samsung. The 2840 has been a problem for us since the check cleared. 2840 Phone support is worthless. All the other HP products we have work perfectly every time.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

well........ first of all it depends on the Operating System on you computer, then starting from there the advice that i can give you it is to fully uninstall the software and then install the software back using the version that is on hp.com
after that when you have the full sw installed you have to set up the scan button on the printer from the twain scan window but that will be a piece of cake. just make sure ot get the software properly installled.
There have been a number of problems identified with the software for this all-in-one. Some pertain to USB connect and some to network.
After installing the printer you will need to set up the "Scan to Button" through the HP Director. Open this user interface from your desk top and click on Settings, then scan settings and preference, then scan to setup. Make sure that the feature is turned on and that you have selected a folder to scan to. Click the apply button once you have made your selections. At this point try the button to see if it is working. If not, from the same location outlined above try turning the scan to feature off and then on again. If the scan to button still does not work, hard boot your PC (shut it down complete) and then restart.
This seems like you haven't installed the toolbox correct, please send more info.
Have you printer connected by usb cable or in a network(scanning doesn't work on a wireless)?
If on a network, use web browser and through EWS on printer see for network tab and SNMP enable read/write, print public in the 4 fields choose apply. Download fix scan utility from HP web and install. Restart the pc and set up the scan in toolbox and try scan again.
if the scan to button is nt configured in Toolbox only thn u ll receive the message "not setup on PC"...
Hence go to Toolbox, Scan to tab... and make sureu have the option Turn on Scan to option seleted and enter the folder name or the e-mail address...
