My parents computer (SR1830NX) is running very slowly, so i decided to check out it's specifications. According to AMD the Processor installed (athlon 64 3500+) should be a dual-core, running at 2.2 GHz. According to it's bios the said specifications are correct, however according to the current os, windows xp media center, the computer is only running at 986 MHz and the task manager only displays one processing core. I am wondering if the cpu is fried or that the second core is somehow disabled in bios. (your company locked everything so i can change no values to find out) any feedback would be greatly appreciated. model is sr1830nx s/n is mxf6170l51

First off , you are doing all that wrong.
(baring heat sink removal and reading top of chip.!!.. with eyeballs.
or run program CPUz (google it, it actully scans the CPU to see what comes back (all CPS do that, maker, model, speed, cores, even DIE revison levels.)

go to HP.com and put in your full tag number
and look it up, easy model PC comes is vast different sub models.
mine has over 10 processors, as an options I-5 up.

Even a DV5 has 50 or more sub models not counting the US mark in the end for USA.
facts. HP has 1000s of lap tops, and DT.
"I cant change values", my guess is you want to change, the BIOS settings That HP blocks so you dont burn up your parents CPU?
that?

My parents computer (SR1830NX) is - tag1-dac5lkjwqyawamp1l0lp3nt4-3-0.jpg
now lets address slow
1: virus infected
2: :not upgrading to SSD drive, vastly slow if not upgraded !!
most LT etc are all slow, back before SSD.
all are. like that. what does yours have, scan that too, easy

SOURCE: need a new processor

According to Compaq's web site, it takes a Socket 939 and the following processors:

  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
  • Athlon 64 4000+
  • AMD Sempron 3200+
Be sure that if/when you buy a CPU it is not Socket AM2, which is more common. You want Socket 939.

SOURCE: Can i make a dual core run like a quad core, or add cores with out changing mother board?

You may be able to install a quad core processor on your motherboard, will need the model to check.
You can't make new cores out of nothing though.

Testimonial: "Answered half my question quickly now i just need to know if I can install a quad core processor in my motherboard. Hopefully I can do my part to help him let me know. "

Lg rd405 I want to buy mother boardpl. suggest

You have to decide what brand of processor (usually Intel or AMD) what form factor your computer case is. Is it a new build or replacement your working on? AMD systems are usually a better value. Once you decide on processor and form factor its a matter of how much money you want to spend.

My HDD will going to corrupt, so i need to buy one, but i don't know that which HDD is compatible with my AMD Athlon XP 2000 PC. Could any one suiggest that how much maximum capacity HDD Support my PC....

Hi,
Hard Disk upto 500GB capacity can be added to most of the PCs. As regards compatibility, first you have to check the motherboard for SATA Hard Disk interface as newer hard disks are SATA. Adding the hard disk has nothing to do with the processor. However, motherboard should have the connecting port/ option (such as SATA). Some motherboards support both IDE and SATA devices. Please check the motherboard for SATA Port. You may find the motherboard model/ system model and google a bit for its specification. (You have mentioned AMD Athlon XP 2000, which is the Processor not the motherboard)
creativetech_80.jpg
If SATA is available on your motherboard, you may add Sata drives of 250-500-750GB drives according to you requirements. Otherwise you have to look for IDE hard Disk.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!
