Question about Sony PC Desktops

1 Answer

I turn on computer and it goes to sign in then immediately goes to sign out, over and over again. I cannot get past this nor can I get in. I've tried Safe Mode but nothing I've done has allowed me to get in; everything still goes back to sign out. Is there a way to get past this? I don't have a disk. This is a Sony Vaio Wireless Desktop Computer.

Why doesnt my compter get past the booting screen?

Early in the post stage, bad ram or failing hard drive.

Do all the following with the PC unplugged:

Remove cables from Hard drive - pay attention to where the go back, turn on pc and see if it goes further (if it does, you probably have a failing hdd and should seek professional help immediately. Don't keep trying it, else you lose everything for sure.

If that doesn't work, plug the hdd back in and again with power UNPLUGGED, remove one of the ram sticks. Turn pc on.

If works, you have a bad stick or slot, if still nothing, put ram back in and take out next stick. Repeat until you find the problem.

Once I turn on the laptop it stays stuck on the LG Splash screen, I press F2 to enter bios setup but it just stays on the splash screen, and nothing progresses, I can't do anything,

I've seen issues like this with a bad hard drive. When entering the bios it queries the hard drive first and it's got issues it can hang it up like this. If you have a spare try that. You can try to boot it without a hard drive to see if it gets past this. Some computers won't boot without a hd though. If you've got another computer you can look around online to make a flash drive bootable and use that instead of your hard drive. Lastly, get a new hd.

Hp slimline s3000 goes immediately into sleep mode

Try booting into Safe Mode then go into the Control Panel and change the Power Options.

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn itback on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFEMODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will lookdifferent to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this isnormal.Once safe mode is up click Start/Control Panel and look for Power Options.

Computer shutting off

shutting off when? Shutting off immediately when you try to start it? Shutting off after it has run for a while?

If it is shutting off after it has run for a while, then it is probably running hot. If you try to restart it immediately it will not boot. If you let it cool off for a while then it will boot successfully (definitely a sign of running hot).

Things that make a computer run hot:
1) Dust in the vents, fans, cpu & heat sink and all inside the computer.
2) Fan not working
3) The Thermal Paste on the cpu and heat sink has either dried up or is too thin to keep it cool.

If it shuts down immediately after it has been sitting for a while then it's not running not and your system has some other problem.

Check that the computer is not hibernating rather than shutting down. It will be in the power settings.

The computer will just randomly do a windows shutdown and then restart. Cleaned, changed the power supply and still does it.

Computers may not be smarter than people, but if they’re designed properly, they will shut themselves down before overheating to the extent that they do themselves damage. If the smart person keeps turning the computer back on and figures out a way to foil the protection, the unit is probably doomed. Once a unit shuts down for thermal event protection, it may refuse to power back up for a fixed period of time, five or ten minutes, or it may begin to boot and shut down immediately as soon as it boots to the point that it can figure out that its too hot. The over-temperature protection is generally a BIOS rather than an operating system function, so one sign of an overheated unit is one that shuts itself down while you’re using it and then refuses to boot as far as the operating system unless you leave it alone for an hour or so to cool down. Unless you’ve been working in a very unfriendly environment, high temperatures, direct sunlight, etc, you should take even a single overheating shutdown as a warning to back up your data at the first opportunity and to give the cooling system a serious cleaning. Check the CPU fan if it is spinning and also the CPU itself put thermal paste. So that the heat from CPU will absorbed by the heat sink.

When I try to open Yahoo mail page all I get is a blank page????

Don't let anyone fool you into reinstalling anything. The problem is with Yahoo, NOT with your computer.

You can TRY the following to force it to somehow work

FIRST sign out of Yahoo on the Mail page. Kill all your browser cookies. Turn off the whole computer, and start it again.
After you restart, go to an Answers page. Sign in from there.

1) Then go to mail from the Mail link at the top left corner.

2) do not use the Check Mail button. Instead, use the Browser GO button or Refresh button, to force the whole page to load again.

3) if the Reply button does not work, COPY the email and sender address, click COMPOSE (which still seems to be working) and paste it in, to make a new mail out of it. Copy it all in, then copy and paste off the sender's address to the address box. If you try to go back to get the address separately, you will lose the content you've just pasted in.

4) BEFORE trying to click on Compose or Contacts, REFRESH the page first.

ANOTHER way to get the Mail is, if you have Messenger, sign into Messenger and use the links there to get at your Mail. After that you might still need to do some of the above tricks, but it seems a bit better through Messenger.

You can either try to reset the BIOS, or have the restore cd fix it for you. By the way, what does the message say?
