If you mean some buttons don't work, then it may be time to take it apart for a cleaning. Using a toothbrush remove any sticky spilled substances and dry thoroughly and put it back together. If some buttons still don't work then the carbon paint on the backs of the rubber insert have worn off. I crazy glue pieces of foil to the bad ones and all is back to normal. (carbon paint is sold in electronic supplies for this but doesn't seem to last very long)

How to repair a Remote Control that is not working properly

When you have a remote control that is not working properly---works but some buttons either do or do not work correctly the most common cause for this is something got spilled on the front of the remote--it does not have to be a large amount to cause problems.

The way all infrared remotes work is there is a circuit board inside with black carbon lines etched on it---this includes lines for each function the remote has.

The buttons on the outside of the remote are actually one large rubber like mat and on the bottom side are coated black buttons---when you press a button on the keyboard the button part on the bottom of the mat touches lines on the circuit board and directs the remote to send a infrared signal to the unit it controls.

In this situation you have two choices:

1.) Most remotes can be taken apart and cleaned for this problem--I have done hundreds of them.

a) Once you get the remote apart (the hard part) the rubber mat should lift freely off of the circuit board---if you have to peel it off and feel resistance you will see whatever residue of what was spilled and got under it; it gets between the mat and the circuit board.

b) The surface of the board where the lines are can be cleaned with denatured alcohol.

c) To clean the mat: remove it completely and with a small toothbrush and dish soap gently wash it in the sink with warm water. Then dry it with compressed air or a hairdryer set to air only. When it is COMPLETELY dry put it back into the face of the remote.

d) If there was a spill into the remote it is also a good idea to clean the face of the remote where the buttons protrude and dry it completely before you put the mat back.

e) Put the remote back together and see if it now works.

Your second option is to borrow another remote for the same kind of unit and see it works normally--if it does and cleaning does not fix the original remote--YOU WILL NEED to buy a new original remote for the unit.

I stay away from "Universal" remotes as many either will not work or be missing several features the original one had.

If a KNOWN good remote does not work it is possible but very unlikely that the problem is in the unit the remote conrols.

See attached photo
of a typical remote taken apart--note the lines on the board and the bottom of the buttons on the keypad.

Neverclean the bottom of the buttons with anything except soap and water asany chemicals can damage the black conductive coating on the bottom ofeach button--it will not hurt the lines on the circuit board!

Dgm LTV4065WH tv, can any one tell me if there is anything i could do to fix the remote sensour as it dose not work and the buttons are temprmental they work now and again. thanks

Almost all remote controls are assembled in two ways= a few have screws on back and in battery compartment(very few) but most are snapped together.

along the seam on the side (and bottom) are hidden snaps----You use either a small screwdriver to get in and from the bottom on each side work your way up the side to release the snaps(some minor damage may occur to the case while doing this.

With the side and bottom loose carefully pry as you go (make sure no screw under the batteries) until both sides are mostly free and the bottom is also.

From there you should be able to snap it all the way free.

remove the batteries

Once apart you will find a circuit board with parts on one side and a rubber mat on the other that has all the actual rubber buttons.

At this point look at the little clear LED at the top (faces set) of the board(some sets have of them---inspect where soldered to make sure not broken loose (2 connections each) connections there--if none proceed.

The mat when pulled away should not be sticky but come cleanly away--if sticky or you see residue of a spill (soda, coffee etc) on the side of the board where the bottom of the rubber mat goes are black lines and patterns each with a black dot---that is the actual switch for each function.

The bottom of the rubber mat will have small round black coated circles that are what touches the etched black on the board.

At this point it is straightforward: if residue on etched board clean it with alcohol and nothing else.

The rubber mat's bottom that connected to or contacts the board must not be cleaned with any chemical or alcohol..

I usually take it to the kitchen sink and with a old toothbrush clean it both sides with dish soap and rinse it with warm water---get both sides as even the top will have some debris or residue on it---it just pulls out of the plastic case half.

Dry the mat completely with a paper towel and then a hair dryer not set to HOT---just regular air---I usually use a small air compressor but a hairdryer will work.

It is important the bottom of the rubber mat with its little circles that make contact when buttons are pressed is really clean but only clean as I have indicated---any chemical cleaner can ruin the mat.

Put the mat back into the case and line up to all the openings, then lay the board back with the contacts aligned to the bottom of the mat, snap it back together (usually best to start at the top).

put the batteries back

Try it out---if you had to push ******* buttons to get them to work before and it was a cleaning issue now it will work like it once did.

sounds complicated but really very easy.

Put new batteries in and no matter what button i push channel 44 comes up on tv.

This is usually caused by liquid being spilled on the remote. This gets under the rubber membrane as the membrane has to have holes in to allow the air to be pushed out and pulled back in when you press the buttons.

Fixing is a nightmare as it involves opening the remote. Most nowadays are very well clipped together and you often break them when opening.

Most cleaning products corrode the carbon contacts inside the remote and so do most commonly spilled liquids like pop.

If you can prise the remote open easily, clean with very slightly soapy water and leave to air dry before re-assembly.

Otherwise, spend a few quid on an universal remote or buy a replica remote from somewhere like CPC or Ebay.

Will not turn on tv,

in most cases when some remote buttons no longer work it is due to some fluid being spilled on to it or it has simply blown a curcuit that completes the current if its a fluid spill the remote needs to be pulled appart and both the rubber controls pad washed as well as the curcuit bord replace the baterys put the unit back together and it should work fine

My philips flat tv keeps on going to the menu screen on its own.

Make sure you do not have a sticky remote. Remove the batteries from the remote and turn it on manually at the TV itself.

If the menu does not come up, your remote has problems. Did you spill anything on it or drop the remote?

other possibility is that you have a neighbor with a similar remote.

Good Luck!

Volume automatic decreases. Have no control of volume

Ensure nothing sticky has been spilled on the TV or the remote, causing the volume down button to stick. Remove batteries from remote to rule it out. Carefully inspect TV volume control for a sticking button. If you find it is sticking, get electrical contact cleaner from Radio Shack and spray the button. Ensure TV is unplugged first.

Remote Control

Most likely the soda gummed up the contacts inside the remote. You can disassemble the remote and clean the contacts on the pc board and, if it has one, the rubber membrane, which is conductive. Use a pencil eraser for the metal contacts on the pc board after cleaning it.
