Question about PC Desktops

2 Answers

Every time I log on my new Dell or leave for a while and come back I have to type in my password. I would like to remove that from my desktop, etc. I should be able to just turn on my computer, period, without the password 'stuff'. Thank you

I'm not sure. It is the login password that appears on the desktop screen. I think it is the Window password. I have never heard of a 'screen saver password' so I have no idea what you mean.

Thank you - I finally figured it out!! I deleted my password!

    Hi

Is it the Windows Logon password or just the screen saver password that you want to remove?

Hi,

If its the Screen Saver Password you want to remove, just go to;

1. START
2. CONTROL PANEL
3. DISPLAYS
4. select SCREEN SAVER
5. switch the SCREEN SAVER setting to NONE
6. or if you still want to remain screen saver and just remove the password, just uncheck the "On Resume, Password Protect.

I hope this procedure works on your side.

    You must have a computer
administrator account on a computer that is a member of a workgroup or is a
stand-alone computer to turn on or turn off the Use the Welcome screen
feature. Logging on at the Welcome screen is not available on computers that
are members of a network domain.

    1. Open User Accounts in Control
      Panel.

    2. Click Change the way users log on
      or off.

    Do one of the following:

    • To specify that users log on to
the computer using the Welcome screen, select the Use the Welcome screen
check box. A user logs on to the computer by clicking his or her user
account name on the Welcome screen. If a password is assigned to the
account, the user is prompted to type it.

    • To specify that users log on to
the computer without using the Welcome screen, clear the Use the Welcome
screen check box. The Welcome screen will no longer appear when you
start the computer. To log on to the computer, type your user name (and
password, if you have one) in the standard Log On to Windows dialog box.

I can't log in to my account on my Dell PC?

Now which operating system are you running ?

Forgetting your Windows XP login details might at first seem like a disaster. Don't panic though; your login password and username are easily recovered by changing the login details to that of the administrator.

Begin with your computer turned off, and then turn it on. You will need to log in to your computer manually and this can only be done in the load-up screens. Wait until your computer reaches the Windows login screen. The screen usually displays a "Welcome" message. Press and hold the "Ctrl", "Alt" and "Delete" keys two times at the Windows login screen. Your computer will automatically reveal a Classic Login box. Type "Administrator" (without quote marks) into the "Username" field and leave the "Password" field blank. Windows automatically creates an Administrator account when your computer is first booted up; in this account you can alter or change any user's login details. Navigate through the "Start" menu and click on the "Control Panel." In the Control Panel explorer, double-click on the "User Accounts" icon to open a new window. Select "Change an Account" in the User Accounts window and select the username you want to alter. From here you can edit the user's name and password, but you can also alter the user's picture, account type and .NET password. Restart your computer to login with your new username and password.

Retrieving administrator settings

Click start Control Panel.

Select "User Accounts and Family Safety," then "User Accounts."

Click "Turn User Account Control on or off."

Remove the check mark next to "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer."

Click "OK."

Set All Accounts to Administrator

Still in the UAC section of Control Panel, select "Manage another account," and click on a user account.

Click on "Change the account type." When working with multiple accounts, some changes can only be made if you and the account holder are both logged in with "Administrator" accounts so you need to change all user accounts to "Administrator."

When you are done making changes, you can change them back to "Standard," but always leave at least one "Administrator" account.

Select the "Administrator" radio button.

Click "Change Account Type" at the bottom right.

Repeat this procedure to change each user account to "Administrator." When all user accounts have been changed, close the Control Panel.

Create a Full Administrator Account

Click "Start" (the Windows Vista icon in the lower left of your screen). In the Search box, type "cmd". Right-click on "cmd," and select "Run as Administrator." An elevated command prompt window will appear.

At the command prompt, type "net user administrator /active:yes", and press "Enter."

Choose a password and assign it to the "Administrator" account, by typing "net user administrator 'password'", where 'password' is your selected password. For instance, if your password is "abc," type "net user administrator abc". Press "Enter."

Type "exit" and press "Enter."

Log off. When you log back into your "Administrator" account, you will have full rights.

hope this helps

How i transfer data from window to linux

Depending on your linux distrobution, you will need to check the /etc/samba or /etc/smb configuration file, within that file there will be a place to set your windowsfile sharing password. then you will be able to transfer data across the local network between your linux / windows machine again..

however, if you've actually changed the password for the linux user account that enabled the samba file sharing, you will need to either remember that password, or set a new one from the root account byt typing the following command in a terminal / bash / shell session:

Task: Set or change user password Type passwd command as follows>
$ passwd <user>

Output: Changing password for <user>
Enter new password:
Retype new password:
passwd: password updated successfully
NOTE: when typing the password, you may not see the password you are typing..
You need to replace <user> with the username you are changing the password for.

Dell 4200 Dimension Desktop, Default Password

Hit Ctrl + Alt + Del twice at the welcome screen, type Administrator for username, and leave the password blank. Works about 80% of the time for me, almost nobody sets the Administrator password.
