Prints only one page, then I have to reset the paper tray.
Dont seem to be able to clear the problem by playing with paper presentation and loading amount.

Sounds like either the paper tray could be faulty. HL5240's don't like too much paper. Also take out the tray, and tilt the printer back. On the underside you will see a white cog which lines up with the mechanism on the tray. Check this isnt loose as the 5240's had an issue where the white cog snapped off of the chassis. This renders the printer useless.

My brother HL-5240 won't feed from paper tray, only manual feed. It makes a clicking noise. Toner is newer, definitely not empty. I've tried all the tricks of removing some paper, using different paper,...

Pull out a paper cassette, lift up the printer and under you see paper feed roller (it is rubber), just clean roller with cloth and water or alcohol.

My printer brother HL 5240 making knoking sound while trying to pull paper and does not print.

i had that for awhile until i realized i didn't have the tray that held the paper fully extended. once i figured that out it has not been knocking. now i have toner light on, its always something

pull the tray out and make sure in the back of the tray it is full extended, the paper will lay nice and flat.
hope that works for you like it did for me

Paper tray won't feed. suggestions Brother 5240 boss is ticked!!!

Is it making any noise? Mine was making a popping sound and I took the tray out, unlocked the back paper length guide and gave the paper a little more room. (be sure to put it in the locked position when you are done). That appears to have fixed the problem for now.

Strong Noise on Brother HL-5240

Make sure the end tab in the paper tray is not too tight. The tab where you set the paper length. The paper should have about 1/16 inch space and not hold the paper too tight.

Popping sound paper tray - Brother 5240 printer

the most common problem is the rear paper guide is pressed too tightly against the paper stack causing a bind when the machine tries to lift the paper up. make sure you have about an 1/8" gap between guige and paper. if that doesn't do it, pull out cassette and locate gear on the left side of cassette bay and make sure it is seated in good.

Won't print

ok, i just tried this and it works--

pull out paper drawer, in the back of the paper drawer there is a rectangular shaped blue button located just right of center. the symbol on it is a lock. this button can be pushed forward (away from you) or backwards (towards you), push it backwards towards you til it clicks in place.

return paper drawer and print.

this solved it for me-

hope this helps

New HL-5240 printer red status light upon powering up

My HL-5240 did the same thing, Here is what I found:

Look at the back of the printer. Pull down the back cover. Look to the right and the left of the exposed internals of the printer and there should be another handle/knob you can pull down. Pull these both down simultaneously and check to make sure there isn't a piece of paper in there! This was a shock to me! My office printer was held up for days until I found this hidden door in the back! I felt like an idiot that it was from a stupid paper jam!

Loud clicking noise

This is one of the known issues with the HL-5240. This will require a replacement paper tray. Definately the problem if it is more of a clack than a click.
