Re: laptop shutting off
There might be a setting in the BIOS that shuts down the computer when the processor gets too hot. so, getting better cooling or turning off the setting will stop it. but, if you disable the setting, the Processor could overheat and explode.

Please switch off the laptop and remove the battery. wait for 10 minutes and clean the battery and keep it in laptop. Connect the laptop to AC power.
Try to check whether the battery is detected in the BIOS setup.
If the BIOS is not detected then please exchange with the new battery from vender.
How long between plugging in and shut down? Many times what happens is it has already initiated the shut down sequence before you plug it in.
To prevent this, keep an eye on the power meter (put it in the systray if not already there) and proactively plug in the AC before it warns you. e.g. if it warns you at 10% when you see it reach 15% plug it in.
i think there are two causes for this reason.1/ ur processer fan is not working properly. at that time u should get this message as thearmal heat. then ur computer shutdown. 2/ setting of power option my be fixed 10 minnutes. we should kee poweroption always never shutdown.
it may need to be left on charge for a while...
when u first boot by pressing power wait for a minute or so and press and hold power button til shut down then try reboot..also try boot from disk....need to distinguish whether motherboard or software issue.
Did you keep your laptop with you the entire time? Remove battery and plug in the power and see if it will come on.. If that doesn't work remove the battery for 15-20 minutes and then see put it back in plug it up and see if it works this time. If not the Airport might have been too rough with your baby...
I have a gateway laptop with Vista that does the same thing.
In the control panel/power settings, ID what power scheme you are using.
I found that when on power saver mode the wireless and CPU were throttled down to conserve power. In Vista you can adjust these up to max power while keeping the other features on the default power saver settings. It improved the dropped connections dramitically. To end the finger pointing I signed up for connection monitoring using DSL reports (DSLreports.com) This service sends a ping to your modem every 10 minutes and charts your ISP uptime. Using this service I was able to determine that it was not my ISP.
