Question about Norton Internet Security 2005 (37648246941) for PC

1 Answer

Norton AV I would go around recommending Norton Anti-Virus. It loads hidden files and is more trouble then it's worth. Try suggesting http://free.grisoft.com/ It's free and installs no hidden files. I know this because when I had it. It took me quite some time to find and remove the hidden files. And there were a lot.

Hello,

I generally do not recommend Norton - however they do have a decent collection of quick programs that remove specific threats that I do reference occasionally. AVG has a decent scan rate but doesn't always remove the threat completely.

Thanks for your post!

You will either have to purchase another subscription from Norton or use another anti-virus. I recommend using AVG, it is free for home users and ranks at the top with Symantec and McAfee.

I learned that my CA software was not operating properly because I still have Norton anti-virus on my system. CA support told me to uninstall Norton and reinstall CA. I downloaded the Norton removal tool...

I would suggest you use the normal method to uninstall your Norton Anti-Virus instead of using the Norton Removal Tool. If you still have problems, then just reinstall Norton Anti-Virus and then uninstall using the Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel. Once you do that, then you can install your CA software. WinFax has notthng to do with your Anti-Virus not working, or your CA. The WinFax problem only is a problem because of Norton's Removal Tool is flawed. Don't use it. http:/www.getfaxing.com/winfax

I cant uninstall norton antivirus 2008

Norton Anti-Virus 2008 was made to not be uninstalled. It had integrated itself into your system files preventing Windows Installer from removing the anti-virus machine. Symantec has made this tool available to remove the product. However believe me when I say traces of Norton will remain until the hard-drive is reformatted.

Once you remove Norton, I highly recommend you stop using Symantec products and check out ESET's product line of Anti-Virus and online-security tools.

To generate the key for norton 2007

Yes get a better antivirus program for one thing. Norton Antivirus is very corrupt and definitely not worth the price. I promise you this is true. I suggest you go to http://free.grisoft.com/ . This antivirus program is free and is recommended by some of the best network engineers around. This program is a lot better because it does not install hidden file in your PC. These files are there so you'll think Norton is really working well. If you should go this route you should remove the Norton program and all it's traces. If you need help with this post it and I'll help you through
PEACE

Norton Antivirus

I'd suggest download AVG AntiVirus, as it's free and many times better than Norton.

Yes, Norton will do this.. one reason I will not advise any of my clients to purchase anything from Norton anymore.. If you are using XP, you should really just install the Norton AV solution and do NOT install the Security Version..

Basically, you are probably running 3 firewalls now, and it is going to cause you all kinds of trouble in the future.. you could disable the XP firewall and see if that will repair the damage, but to tell you the truth (from experience!) Norton may still give you trouble..

My suggestion? Uninstall Norton completely, return it to the store, and if you really want Norton, then purchase only the AV solution. Then let XP be your firewall.. especially since you are running behind a NAT'd device (your Linksys).. you really do not need the extra firewall running, regardless of what anyone tells you.. (note that I am a network engineer, Cisco Certified, and do know what I am talking about here..:)

Also, since this is a WiFi connected computer, make sure that you have WEP, WAP, or another encryption running on your Wireless network.. this would concern me more than anything, since I would not need access to your computer (reason for a firewall) to steal your data..

Have a safe and Happy Holiday Season!
