Question about Amana PTH123B25AJ Heat Pump Air Conditioner

2 problems.. AC Comp cuts out. And Fan will not stop.

I have amana PTAC's (Amana PTC094B35AE) installed in my hotel and am having issues with 2 units.
1) When you cut on the AC the compressor kicks on then kicks out after 2 minutes.
2) The second one the AC is not working at all. However, the fan runs constantly. The fan runs with the master switch in the off position. The only way to stop the fan is to pull the main fuse for the unit.

Thanks! I got the same advise from an HVAC tech on #1. I've gotta pull the unit to clean the coils good. I'll let you know if that fixes it.

I have an Amana PTAC Model # PTH153B35AE. The a/c was working then all of a sudden no air. I turned the AC off then back on, I can hear the compressor trying to come on, but then the system shuts right down. I cleaned the filter and coil but I still get the same thing.

Unit#2 -Sounds like the contacts on the master switch are welded closed or the switch is broken, Replacing the switch should fix this unit.
#1 is a little more difficult to diagnose. The compressor is being taken off line by a circuit that protects the compressor from damage either; 1- liquid refrigerant getting back to the compressor which can be caused by something as simple as a clogged return air filter or evaporator coil on a heat pump or 2- overload situation caused by a bad condenser motor or a clogged condenser coil. The first thing you need to do is clean both coils and replace the filter,. Then check to be sure your getting good airflow across both coils. I think it's most likely an airflow issue I hope this resolves the problem GL!

These unit runs on 240 volt, make sure the outlet is not 110 volt, that would trip the breaker.

It's most likely your thermostat the one up front that plugs in under your control panel. Had one do the same thing replaced it now works perfect.

I have an Amana ptac hotel type thru the wall unit. The unit won't turn on - it's plugged in. The gfi button is popped out. There is power to the wall plug. Any ideas?

Hi,
If you reset the GFCI button and then when you go to turn it on the button pops again, then you have a short inside the units probably in the fan motor or the compressor..

When you change the board on an Amana youmusty program the board. You should have gotten a sheet that shows you how to do this. I sell Amana PTAC units and all boards have to be programed for heat pump or electric heat.Russ
