How do I get to the supply board?

Do you think it could just be the lamp?

  • canchaser Jun 13, 2008

The lamp was changed about a year ago. I was wanting to check the board to see if I could visibly tell if that was the problem before ordering a lamp

  • canchaser Jun 13, 2008

Is it better to purchase a bad board or have it repaired?

Check the 2 3300 mf/ 10 volt capacitors on power supply board.
visible examination of these caps will often show the top of the capacitor bubbled up.

    hi canchaser

first of all, a bad lamp will cause the lamp indicator to come on but usually will not cause the strobe effect.Has the lamp ever been changed before? if so how long ago?

I;m a little reluctant to go into the procedure to get to the power supply because I don't know how familiar you are at replacing solder in components.

These tv's over the last year or so have developed several different problems due to leaky capacitors. Not only the 2 caps in the power supply but there are 4 capacitors on the DM board and sometimes 4 caps on the formatter board that can become leaky.

If your not confident in what your doing I would contact an AUTHORIZED Mitsubishi servicer. These problems are addressed in a series of bulletins.

As for an estimate of repairs, that's a hard question. I've been in the service business for 36 years and estimates for the same repairs can vary greatly. To change the capacitors on the power supply board in the home would probably be around $300.00

    Good Luck,

i seriously doubt the lamp is the issue. i'm still leaning towards the caps on the power supply board. there's quite a bit of disassembly to get to them. as for the caps on the dm and formatter board, forget it. I know you don't want to hear this, but i still sggest you go with an authorized mitsu servicer. changing this board is not necessary just the capacitors. you probably couldn't get the board yourself seeing how you would need Technical Assistance to authorize the purchase. if price is the issue I would call an authorized servicer and ask them if their familiar with the capacitor issue and prod them for a rough esimate for repairs

    Good luck

My WD-52525 started a rubbing noise coming from the back area. I figure it's the light engine. Color was off and it won't restart, has a lamp light now. Lamp is 4 months old. Sound like light engine?

This sounds like your color wheel. this will affect the colors on your screen. Do check your lamp though, at 4 months you still should have a good lamp. Unless you have a bad ballast affecting the lamp as well. If you hear a rapid clicking or an electrical buzzing type noise. "ballast"

Our Mitsubishi WD 52525 goes to blue screen and shuts off.

It sounds like you TV is overheating and the video is suffering and the lamp is overheating as well. Also, if your TV is over 2-3 years old, the mirrors (behind and below the big front screen) desperately need to be cleaned. Clean all filters and fans as well. (Look on side and behind the unit). Is the TV in a "hot" environment and/or dirty environment? DLP TV's are NOT sealed units. They need to be cleaned every few years to work well to have a good, clear, bright picture.

Wierd sounds coming from fan

If it is a grinding sound, or a sound you might consider painful to listen to for more than say, five seconds--it's your color wheel.

The color wheel in most MITS DLPs can be replaced on its own. However, in some cases, you need to replace the whole Light Engine.

Expect to pay $400+ for the Light Engine and $250+ in labor for someone to install it.

If the tv looks now dark this is the first symptom of a lamp replacement (refer to the user's manual to do this job) and get a Mitsubishi original replacement.
the best picture setting (when the lamp is back of course) depends in the light of the room.
Now if after replacing de lamp and playing with the settings and the screen still pale, dimm, not enought color. a cleanning in the reflexion area is needed. (technican job)

maybe your problem is in the power supply circuit of your tv,but then try to replace the flyback first maybe there is no high voltage coming out on the cap.

Turn on the set and let it shut down. push in the Menu and Device (or input, I don't have a schematic in front of me) buttons on the front of the set at the same time and hold until the green light starts flashing. Then release. There will be two different sets of flashes, such as, 3 and 6. The code 12 means the set is opperating fine. The other codes will tell you what part of the set needs repaired. Also, remove the bulb and check the ballast connection to the bulb. I find the connection for the bulb bent over when a customer replaces the lamp sometimes. Let me know what you find and we can go from there.
