Check to see if the fan is running after it heats up. Processors get hot quick, so it shouldn't take long for the fan to start. If it's not working take it out and clean it. I've had fans that have stopped because of a hair wound in them. If it still doesn't work replace it before you do serious damage.

Over heating and heatsink

Unless you are using something like speedfan from it is impossible to tell if something is really too hot. There have been reports of low end laptops that dont have metal frames overheating.

Follow these steps hopefully it will help you
- Minimize the use of background tasks such as defragmentation and virus scans
- Always place your laptop on a hard flat surface.
- Never leave operating laptop with closed lid. This always generates heat inside laptop
- Use a cooling fan near the heating area or use laptop at reasonable room temperature
After that get the Intel software partner Reginout to fix all the registry issues and hidden files that load on your system.
Best of luck

to answer your questions, yes it can/will damage hardware and yes, and your in luck there are easy fixes, one is just take some canned air, and blow it out via the vent,
two.... you can open up the panels in the back and take canned air and blow it out that way(do not turn can upside down)
three, replace the fan, it very simple too do, just open the back panel and unscrew the fan out, pull the little plug out and replace, take about 5mins

Hi , When i plug my charger into my acer 4730 laptop it become hot and suddenly turn off, what can i do ??? please help me

Have a look around the base of the laptop for access panels, if you remove these, one of them should give you access to the fan, this fan blows air through a heatsink in order to cool the laptop down, clean all around the fan and also remove the fan to clear the gap in between the fan and the heatsink as dust builds up there very easily.

Hope this helps

Overheats and freezes

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the battery.
Buy a can of compressed-air.
Give the computer a "blow-job", because dust inside the computer is working as a layer of insulation, i.e., not allowing your computer's fans to cool itself.

I have a presario R3000 notebook. just like to ask if the fan for ventilation underneath is working in a certain temperature. or it will automatimatically running when i plug in.. can some one help me....

There are several models of this notebook depending on the processor. Some only have one fan, otehrshave two. When operating the fan should start running. I have the higher spec R3000 and my fans start soon after the machine is turned on and sometimes throttle down if I have no activity. Upon starting to use it, they soon start again. Considerable hot air will come out the right back and side.

DO NOT block the air intake(s) on the bottom of the unit !!! You can burn up the processor.

If the fan is noisy and the laptop is running hot, then most likely the fan is faulty and spinning slowly. Therefore the fan is not providing sufficent air flow to cool the laptop's CPU. The fan needs to be replaced and possibly the heatsink assembly needs cleaned to remove dust buildup.

My laptop becomes too hot & it shut downs suddenly when I use any big applications like turbo c or playing any game or when I try to write any cd through it. After few minutes its fan starts spinning very...

Sounds like you have a hardware fan & vent, the CPU shuts down when it gets too hot.
Check the fan, it should spin freely, clean the dust off the fan and heatsink assembly. Replace the fan if necessary.
When you use the laptop, make sure none of the vents are covered.
