Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

Open Tray/Close Tray

After updating my system to play grand theft auto 4, days later on the display it said Scratched Disc or disc error, or something of this nature. I took the game out no scratches but to check my system I threw in another game I always play Fight Night rd3, which has never given me any problems; When I go to games on screen where I usually can load the game to play, it reads OPEN TRAY, I do it, Then it reads CLOSE TRAY, this circle of frustration is as far as I can get to loading a game its like the only function now available is to OPEN AND CLOSE my tray, is there anything I can do before sending it in to be fixed to remedy my problem? If anyone has had similar difficulties I would deeply appreciate any  comments/advice on how to go about getting my machine back to normal. Hoping its not a lost cause... Thanks guys.

The xbox is rejecting the game, due to read type. best thing you can do is send it in to Microsoft, if you still have the warranty (which you probably do)

I had this error code as well. Here's the solution that ended up working for me:
  1. Eject the disc tray and remove any disc from the console.
  2. Important: Do not close the disc tray. Leave it open.
  3. With the disc tray open, remove the power cord from the back of the console.
  4. Gently push the disc tray about half-way back into the console.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the console.
  6. Push the power button on the console. The tray should close the rest of the way, then the console should restart and display the Xbox Dashboard.
  7. Important Do not use the controller or the disc eject button to turn on the console.
  8. Try updating your console software again.
What this does is put the DVD drive into Mode-B, which is an alternate operating state that allows the drive's physical memory banks to be flashed with new firmware. Because the latest XBL update involves flashing the drive with new firmware, you may need to physically put the drive in Mode-B. The latest update flashes the drive to make it compatible with Microsoft's new high-capacity disc format, XGD3, which will be used sometime in the future.

Tip

How to resolve Xbox 360 disc read errors. Xbox will not play disc.

Is your xbox360 having trouble reading disc? In this guide I will provide some common solutions to help you fix your disc read issues.

1)Remove any memory devices or usb flash drives.
2)If the disc you are using is excessively scratched, this can cause the xbox to have trouble reading the disc. You can use a damp soft cloth to try and clean the disc. Grab the disc by the edges and using a soft damp cloth lightly wipe the disc from the center going outward.

3)Try removing your Xbox hard drive and then play a disc. Turn off the console. Locate the hard drive on the top of your system(depending on how you have it positioned). Press the release button on the hard drive.

If your system can read disc without the hard drive attached then you may need to replace the drive.

4)Clear the Xbox360 cache. Clearing the cache may remove updates to certain games. Keep this in mind.
Go to System Settings in the My Xbox menu. Select Memory, highlight your storage device and select Clear System Cache. Try and play the disc.

If after the above steps you are still having trouble. You may want to contact Microsoft Xbox live support to have your system serviced. You can find the support information in the link below,

Keeps asking to close tray then opn tray

Well you either have dirty or scratched disc's, or there is a faulty with your drive on the xbox, you could try a lense cleaning disc but I suspect the drive will need to be recalibrated, or replaced, if you can't do this yourself (i'm doing a tip for this in the next couple of days) I can do it for you, email me uksupratt@yahoo.co.uk

You need to go online, and in order to do that you need a plug or a wireless internet connection and you have to go online with the disc in and it will update to a specific date.

Disk format

1) Turn on machine
2) Open Tray
3) With tray still open hold the reset until the tray closes.
4) Tap the reset once.
if there is a format disc error, it says "Please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc." It is accompanied by a sound similar to the browser, but with a more tense noise. This is caused by a disc being so badly scratched that it completely fails to recognise the format, or if there is a problem with the laser. Auto-Diagnosis (PlayStation 2 system) 1. Turn on the system without a disc inside. 2. Once at the Main Menu, press the triangle button to enter the Version Information Screen. 3. Highlight the "Console" option, and then press the triangle button again. 4. Next, press the X button, highlight "On", and then press the X button once more. 5. Now press the circle button twice to return to the Main Menu. 6. Press the eject button on the front of the console, and insert a disc. 7. Now close the disc tray, but DO NOT reset the system. 8. Highlight the Browser option from the Main Menu, and then press the X button. 9. In the Browser, an icon of the disc should appear on the screen. Highlight this icon, and then press the X button to read the disc. 10. If the auto-diagnosis is successful, the disc should load properly at this point.NOTE: The auto-diagnosis feature will return to "Off" the next time a disc is inserted.
