For the HP Photosmart C4200 All-in-One printer, please go to page 65 in you're user manual. (You can download the manual from HP. It is much easer to see the documentation in PDF format displayed on you're monitor). Click on this link to download: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00897310.pdf
When replacing an ink cartridge it is recommended to run the alignment. Page 71. After which you want to run a self test report, also on page 65. Doing this should clear up the skip on every other line. If it does not, check the program you are using. Make sure the program's line spacing is set correctly. Before printing, check the documentation by clicking print preview.
Lastly, sometimes after removing the tape from the new ink cartridge it can leave behind a small amount of tape residue. Use alcohol, dripped onto a cotton swab & clean the copper contacts on the side of the ink cartridge. Also clean the copper strip within the carriage.

Good Luck!

SOURCE: hp officejet 7310 won't print in black

You people are stupid! After the first person detailed the problem, why do you reiterate by saying "me too, me too"? People come here looking for answers, not more of the same. Here's a suggestion. If you don't have a solution, don't say anything!!!

Printer contain 4 cartridges and 2 printeads. Because the black color skip some lines as you mentioned you need to replace a new printead(not the cartridge) No:88 Black/Yellow color one. My lexmark X7170 Printer Skip line when printing how do fix it

Try to re-seat the cartridges in the printer. Open the printer cover > remove the cartridges > close the printer cover > re-brick you printer by pulling out the power supply - black box behind the printer where the power cord is plugged in, and re-plug after 10 seconds. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges and close the cover. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

If that doesn't help, the problem could be due to a clogged print cartridge nozzle. Please follow the steps below to fix print quality issues with your model:

  1. On your computer, go to Start menu.
  2. Go to Programs.
  3. Go to Lexmark 2600 Series folder.
  4. Select Lexmark Solution Center.

From the Maintenance tab, select Clean to fix horizontal streaks. Your printer will then print a page forcing ink through to clean the print cartridge nozzles.

Try printing out the test page from the printer, this will show you if any of the inkjet holes are getting plugged. If you can't print a test page without the skipping try changing the ink cartridge(s), the test page will show you which one is clogging.
