Device had been working fine and while playing audio track suddenly powered off with no error message or low battery warning. Tried to power back up and wont start. When plugged into pc dev shows connected and shows up as mtp device in My Computer. When I check battery status it shows as charging and is currently at 87% but regardless will not power up. Suspect a short but wanted an opinion before it turns into a paper weight . Thank you in advance.
The freezing at 87% suggests hardware malfunction, but you can try all of the "soft" fixes to be sure -
Triple Reset for GoGear: Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.
After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player.
Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.

My brother's life has its own soundtrack. He has a Walkman E Series MP3 Player and I'm looking for the absolute best headphones for him. He likes to play his music at full volume most of the time, and he wonders why he goes through headphones so fast. I am looking for these headphones to be very durable, and they cannot be in-ear headphones or DJ headphones.
