Question about HP Pavilion dv2000t Notebook

1 Answer

Memory Upgrade I have an HP Pavilion dv2000, about 1 year old. It has vista, but only 958 MB of RAM. It runs slow and loud and has trouble playing videos from the internet and DVDs. Would upgrading to 2 GB of RAM be likely to fix these problems? If I took my laptop to a BestBuy store near me and purchased the RAM there, would they also install it for me? My laptop was purchased at a BestBuy, but it was a gift and I do not have the receipt or warranty.

Increasing the amount of RAM will always help your laptop's performance. However, in this case, I would try going to HP's web site and updating the video drivers or try a different program to play DVD's. 958 should be more than enough RAM to run DVD's smoothly. You can find DVD software at filehippo.com for free.
As for RAM instalation:
I would only let Bestbuy install them if it's free. Installing memory chips is simple, they're located under a panel on the bottom of the machine. (Be sure to power down first) Do it yourself and use the money you save on the outrageous gas prices.

Hp mini 1030nr is slow after ram upgrade. I installed a second 1 mb dimm thinking to take the speed up a notch. Instead it seems to work more slowly. Did I miss something?

This is a common misconception. Increasing the RAM typically slows things down due to additional information needed to be read and interpreted. In the old DOS days this can be compared to a wait state, were the faster components need to wait for slower ones to catch up. You may be better off removing the added RAM.

I have a Pavilion HP dv4 laptop with Windows Vista. It is fast with internet pages, but incredibly slow opening, saving files on the computer. It may take 5 minues to open a folder on the C drive!

First use the recovery cd ..or installation cd ..to reinstall the operation system ....cause this is a sign that it got a bug on the system ..or has some damaged files that slow it down ....
Another thing ...if it worked like this always...I sugest to downgrade to windows xp .cause you probably do not have enough Ram memory for this OS ...or upgrade the ram by inserting one more slot if it has free slots...
for vista to operate well enough in a computer you need at least 2G of ram memory ...if you have only one ....better install windows XP ...if you want to downgrade to Xp and do not have the drivers ..let me know to link you to a download location ...

Is 1 gig of ram enough memory to support vista to run?

Hey there you want to use vista?? lol good luck. You need a min of 2 gigs ram to run vista but should ideally have 4 gigs for good operation. vista is a memory hog. You can change the configuration to use less but still need at least 2 gigs

What can I safely upgrade to for gaming

0Hi there,

The Pavillion dv4t comes with a choice of specs to meet your needs. As you haven't listed them I will list the Minimum that you will need to run the games, that way, you can check them against what you have and decide if you need to upgrade.

I will list for Sims 3. Even with the basic dv4t you will not need to upgrade to play Sims 2.

Sims 3

Running Vista SP1

CPU (processor speed) - 2.4 Ghz Pentium 4 or Athlon 2400+
RAM (memory) - 2 GB
Video Card (graphics) - 128 MB (Nvidia GeForce Go 6200, ATI Radeon Mobile 9600, or equivalent)
Hard Drive (space for installation) - 6.5 GB and an extra 1.5 GB for custom content.

These are the minimum specs for running on a laptop.

Hope that helps

Tim

HP Pavilion DV2000 running very slowly

Yes! I would not recommend anything below 2GB at minimum. I have one laptop with 2GB and one with 3GB: they both open programs and browse the internet very quickly. Even with just two programs open (Internet Explorer and Outlook 2007) it uses 1.1GB of memory.

Definitely upgrade your memory. I recommend this site:
http://www.4allmemory.com/

Just pick your model and they recommend the memory to pruchase. TIP: order with next day shipping - it's only $10. The free shipping takes 14 days. So unless you're patient (I'm not) the $10 many be worth it.
