Rust on Jenn Air Refrigerator Door at Water Dispenser

Hi, there. We have a relatively new (6 years old) Jenn Air side-by-side refrigerator/freezer. Rust has started forming at the water dispenser below the overflow collection "plate". A long vertical "snake like" streak of rust is going alway the down the door.

Any suggestions on how to remove the rust from the water dispenser and fix the rust streak down the door?

I have the same problem but with a Stainless Steel fridge. Any way to remove the rust from the Stainless Steel?

I have the Jenn Air stainless side by side too. I have used a polish product made in Germany. I believe it's called Wenol and comes in a tube. It has an abrasive in it. I get the rust streak out with this and then go over the whole fridg. with the spray product called Stainless Steel Magic. Comes in an aerosol can. Both products I have found in a specialty kitchen store. Shackfords in Napa, California has it. Another polish product called Aero Gloss that I have used on cars, plexiglass and airplanes is an acrylic product that dries to a fine powder and comes off anything easily, leaves a fine coating on the surface everytime you use it, and it may lessen the effect of water rusting your surface. This product is fantastic for cars too. It has no abrasives in it but works chemically to remove oxidation, etc. Great for cars, plexiglass, airplanes. Just keep it off porous rubber surfaces for example.

Mine is a General Electric Refrigerator (Side-by Side) but I have the same problem with rust growing under the water dispenser area. I need to find a way to stop the rust from growing, and repair the surface. Mine is a textured surface.

Please contact me at when an effective solution is found.

    Thank you,

You may end up respraying the door, but here goes.-

First mechanically remove as much of the rust as you can with an old screwdriver or similar scraper. Then use coarse emery cloth - 80 -120 grit untill all you're left with is shiny metal with rust pits.
You may need to go out further than you think - about 1" all round.

Then use a paint- on de-rusting fluid from vehicle products supplier. When all rust is black or dissapeared, use a zinc primer on all the bare metal. (this will stop it reacuring)

Then either spray the area with an "appliance white" aerosol or squirt it into the cap, and use a paintbrush.

If you are spraying it, open all house windows and doors, cut a mask from newspaper- then tape it to the fridge. Use blankets , plastic dustsheet or old sheets to protect things, and spray it from 12" in several very light coats.

When done, "polish" with T cut - which should remove the rust stain too.

Seal the area of the original leak with a white or clear silicone - and sort the original leak out.

If you polish the plastic with a silicone spray, water will tend to stay put rather than seep.

I have a white side by side refrigerator that started forming small streaks of rust all over the refrigerator door. It is still in good running condition with almost spotless interior except for the exterior problem I stated. What shall I do to fix it?

Jenn air french door water dispenser broken

You have two sides to your 67006531 Dual Water Inlet Valve, so it is very possible the side that controls the water flow for the dispenser is defective. Replace the 67006531 Dual Water Control Valve and I believe your fridge water will work fine.
I will be here should you have more questions, Thanks Sea Breeze

"change water filter" continues to flash when dispensing water

I believe your new Jen-Air has an old model number placed above your post. If you had a newer model nuber I could see if changes were made to the solution. The ods are no changes. I it possible you may have missed removal of te flilter plug? It also is your first time and to press the 2 buttons at same time for 8 to 10 seconds may be a little confusing. I bet after this time you will have this down to an art! here is what I could find without the vorrect model number if that is what happened or not.Jenn-Air
Press and hold the light and lock buttons until the change filter light flashes.
It is very easy to reset your filter indicator light on your Maytag refrigerator. Simply press and hold the light and lock buttons, on the dispenser, for about three (3) seconds, until the change filter light blinks.

Freezer is too cold, ice crystals. Refriderator

I'm not sure which one you have, but try this: Look for the area where the air passes from the freezer to the refrigerator side, in the wall somewhere between them. Make sure that there isn't something blocking the passage. This is a good place to start.

Jenn air refrigerator problem

Couple things to check first is that your evaporator fan motor is running, located in the back of your freezer. open the door and listen for the fan some work on the door switch make sure you depress the switch to check it. If the fan is not running more than likely you need a new fan. The second thing is just look at the back of the freezer compartment and look for a layer of heavey frost if there is heavey frost then your defrost is not working, will need to manually defrost and probably replace the defrost terminator part of the heater assymbly
