Question about HP Compaq FP5315 15" LCD Monitor

HP Compaq FP5315 15" LCD Monitor dead

You have said a solution was "There are also 5 or 6 bad Capacitors on on top but as far as i know the only way to fix these power boards is to replace the components themselves as you can not buy a power board."
I am a technician at a television studio and we have a FP5315 that is dead. I have found a burnt/shorted SMD diode on the under side of the HV PCB. It seems you know what components cause the problem. I can fix it if you can proved more info.
Thanks for the help.

My screen had all the problems described above. Opened it and replaced C525 which shown traces of bad heating (the plastic sieeve was shrinked and melted). Tried it and it worked decentlly. But the zener had heated the board and all the caps described by Wladimir 23 had a round top. Checked the temp of these components with a laser thermometer : 31 to 35 degrees celsius. I closed the enclosure and will wait for the next failure.

Hi there, looks like undersized radiators and to much heat on the board. i am technician amateur and when the monitor was dead means power button was flashing and tiny sound off ticking was hearable i opened it and found over heated place around zener diode and few capacitors were on top rounded like overheated bud non exploded. so i just went to shop and buy glass zener diode 7v5. Putted all back it was running for couple hours and blacked again... diode were blowed. so second time i connected wires from zener place and started putting few zeners in parallel and measured voltage. it gradually increase voltage and heat. when i measured current going through it appear similar. so i decided to replace capacitors who doesn't look healthy. C922, 925 both 16V 1000mF, and C924 926 929 930 932 16V 470mF. hard to get them in my small town so i putted there 25V 220mF two times. I'd say that more volts will have more resistance against heat. wanted put some small fan but i couldn't find any 12V source on board and haven't got any 230V small fan. so i just drill more holes on bottom of steal cover. hopefully it will increase convection around board. thats it. i connected it and power on zener diode drop down and keep still and doesn't over heating. didn't measure current. just putted together and next week going to see how long it will last at my office. Sorry for my english and amateurism but i am just trying to share my few hours job. good luck Vladimir23  one more thing be really careful there are hundreds of volts all around board under power!!!!

Yeah replace the caps and sometimes the 7.5v zener diode burns up too. I have been replacing the surface mount ones with just a regular through diode

Lg 17"lcd monitor is power

You will have to take your monitor apart to fix this problem. Once inside, you need to find the capacitor or capacitors that are blown. The will be round on top, instead of flat. A picture is far better than words for this one, and video is even better. There are some excellent videos on Youtube that show you how to find the bad capacitors and how to fix them. It is not difficult, if you know how to solder.

It goes on and off by itself. By holdng the on/off switch it will srtay on for a few minutess then go off. Alight touch on the switch will make it come back on for a few m,inutes, the the on off process...

More likely to have dying power supply due to bad caps with domed tops.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed HP/COMPAQ monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/

Or www.digikey.com just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current, long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series.

Monitor just blacks out. Unplugging and plugging power cord into back of monitor brings it back for a while.

Monitor keeps turning on and off? it wont even show the screen for more than a second or two and then switch to black again.

your LCD inverter is almost dead. the monitor itself actually remains on, but just goes to black each time the LCD inverter cuts out, since this is what supplies white light to the screen.

I have dell 1907fpt, the lcd screen powers up for just 2 or 3 seconds.

The backlight might be bad. As far as I know, there isn't a way to replace that, so you'll have to get a new monitor.
