Question about Nintendo Wii Console

Green light stays on, black screen, no sound, no connection w/ remotes

After finishing a race in Mariokart wii the screen went black and the sound stopped. The Wii stayed on but it didn't read the disk, so we ejected the disk but the power button won't turn the Wii off. It only turns off when we unplug it but it does turn on when we press it. The Wii also doesn't connect or respond to the remotes or with our wireless internet. The only part that works is the CD slot, we can still put in and eject games but the Wii makes a loud noise when the disk is in but there is still a black screen, no sound, and the remotes won't work. We unplugged everything and plugged it back in and it still didn't work even though we tried it on 2 TVs. Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem - wii would turn on to a green light but blank screen and somehow my wiimotes got unsynced. Nintendo tech support and I figured out it was a power issue (not just A/V) since my disc wouldnt eject (even after unplugging and plugging everything). Bottomline I have to send it in for a repair (75 bucks!!! since its outside of warranty) - nice customer service though. I'll write back when I get the wii back (14 days) and let y'all know how it went.

    Follow up to previous post:

So I got my Wii back today and everything looks great........except all my memory is lost (that includes Miis and game saves) - Also "lost" my virtual console games but I can redownload them from the Wii shop at no extra charge......Called Customer Service to see about my memory (they told me this might happen when I called about sending it in) and he said they are going to look into it and give me a call in 72 hours. He also told me they had to replace virtually everything on my Wii with the exception of the Casing (all the plastic) and the circuit board.....good news is I am guaranteed for a full year now. So there you have it - will post more if Nintendo gives me a call with some good news :)

Okay..... I just fixed my wii with the same problem. If your wii is
connected to a have to go to the vcr settings and make sure
you have the cooresponding location of the video and audio cables. ..
in my case.... the settings were fixed to "rear". However, my cables
were inserted into the front. when you switch the settings, the screen
should display the wii menu screen and warning (press A button). Hope
    this helps. =P

You mentioned you do not have a connection issue, however, I want to verify what type of cable connections you have.

My wii is hooked up properly, but when I turned the input to the right place the screen is just black. The Wii remotes will not connect at all even when charging and the wii console's light is green.

Have you checked to see if it might be your cables that are damaged? Did you mod your Wii? If you tried modding your Wii and now youre getting just a black screen it might have gotten bricked. Also try using it on a different TV.

After pressing the red sync button on the console for about 10-15 seconds, and syncronizing the remote, the remote stars to work, but when I start a game the remote is no longer working. Then when I...

There are two ways to sync the Wii remote with the Wii console after pressing the red sync button like you did:

1) Press the "1" and "2" buttons on the Wii remote until the lights begin to flash. This method provides a temporary connection to the Wii.
2) Open the battery cover on the Wii remote and press the red button next to the batteries. This creates a permanent connection or "pair" between the Wii remote and the Wii console.
Based on your description, it sounds like you are using method #1. In order to power on the Wii when the Wii's red light is on (meaning the machine is turned off) and start playing games like you want, method #2 must be used.
Imagine method #1 as "guest mode". If a friend comes over with their Wii remote and wants to play a game, you would open up the game first, use method #1, and your friend would temporarily be connected to the Wii. Using method #1 is like "owner mode" that lets the Wii remote turn the console on and off and always stay connected to it.
Hope this helps!

We were playing a game and the tv screen went black then we ejected the game and the wii console will not shut off and now it wont play a game or nothind then we tried to unhook it and the light stayed...

Power light is green or orange - TV screen is blank
If the power light is green or orange and your screen remains blank, follow these steps.
    1. Completely power down your system by pressing the power button for 10 seconds. If that doesn't work, unplug the AC Adapter from the Wii for a moment, then plug it back in.
    2. Make sure your Wii console has the most current Wii system menu. Download the latest update (how to), and then test your Wii console to determine if the problem has been resolved.
If you continue to experience this issue, there is a problem with the Wii console and it will need to be repaired.

Have sound but no video. Already replaced a/v cable, also light stays green.

- Power on Wii, give it a few seconds to boot
- Hold DOWN on the directional pad of the Wii remote
- While holding DOWN, press the RESET button on the Wii

The Wii reboots and the screen settings are back to default.

When you turn the Wii on, and the light goes from red or orange to green, press A a few times (this would be to get through the warning/safety screen) then wait a minute. Then when you wave your remote about, you will feel it vibrating as it goes over the channel icons on the wii menu screen. Plus a blue light will be lit at the bottom of the remote to denote player 1.

If all of this happens, it is just a lead or TV input issue. If these things do NOT happen, the Wii is broke and needs fixing by Nintendo!

Power is on but screen is black

I found this [temporary] solution at

(via email, thanks Steven) This happened to me once, but I fixed it. Here is how:
Eject the disk
Unplug the wii at the back
Wait 1 minute
Plug it back in
Turn it on from the remote
Press reset if it does not show up
Hold the power button to shut it off
Turn it on once more.
I don't know how, but it seemed to work for me. The problem happened when I was trying to load the Mii channel. Hope this helps !

(via email, thanks Andrew)
The first time I shut down my Wii, the light went orange (as it should). When I turned on the power with my wii remote the next day, the wii\'s light turned green but the screen was black.
The treatment was the same as from Black Screen, No Connection: Unplug the Wii\'s power supply unit, then replug; turn system on with wii remote.
The difference is: this problem can strike in more places than just by loading the Mii Channel. Also, I think the green light being on (yet there being a black screen) is a common symptom as well.
