Display is very dark

The laptop was dropped and it killed the display. The laptop functioned fine in evry other way afterward. An external monitor worked. I replaced the display and can just barely make out what is on the sscreen, it is very dark and the brightness adjustment does not brighten the display. Any suggestions?

Dim screen is usually caused by a bad inverter board especially if you get video to external monitor. Usually cost $100-$200 depending on laptop.

Hope this helps!

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.

Aspire 4930, Model no. JAL90 purchased on 31.3.2009.On 22.12.2010 suddenly display stopped working. What is the solution

Hello
The display of your laptop may go dark in one of two scenarios.
  • Physical damage that has resulted into a cracked or broken screen, if your laptop is dropped, especially with its case opened.
  • Malfunctioning of video power or control circuitry
If your laptop screen is physically damaged you should determined whether there is other damages to the laptop. You can plug an external monitor by using the video output connector to ascertain this. If your applications function of this external monitor you can simply go LCD screen repair and you can be sure that you will be able to recover your data. On the other hand, if there is no physical damage to your laptop screen and it goes blank you can connect to an external monitor and determine if other components of the laptop are functional. These steps will help you in your repair decision.
Good Luck

No display and no external display everything worked fine until i replaced the cdrw

Connect first the external monitor in another computer to make sure that the monitor is still working.

You have to either switch or share the display to the external monitor. Locate the Fn button and the monitor icon in one of the function keys (from F1-F12) on your computer's keyboard.

Once you find it, press Fn + F# at the same time. (example: Fn + F8) and the display should transfer to the external monitor.

Macbook dropped and screen has dark and light blobs

the display cable is disconnected
open the MAcbook. you need a little careful with the self locking system. there are fewer screws. once you have opened it, remove the motherboard to view the display cable. remove and plug it again.
if you dont have proper tools it is highly recommeded  that you take it to nearest service centre or technician

How to block VGA port on my laptop

in most cases, you can switch between display modes by using the function keys. the keys from F1 to F12 on your keyboard should contain various symbols (sometimes in blue). one of those symbols looks like the front of a monitor (on some laptops it says "LCD/CRT"). look for the key with the monitor symbol (or the text "LCD/CRT"), press and hold the Fn-key on the bottom line of your keyboard and then press the display mode function key. then you will see if the image on your display switch from one screen to the other.
if you cannot find such a key, you can disable the external display by right-clicking your desktop and choosing properties from the drop-down menu. on the "settings"-tab you should be able to see two virtual displays. click on display 2 and then uncheck the box that says "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor".

Monitor too dark....

Usually every laptop has the option of adjusting the screen brightness as you would want the screen to be pretty dim when running on battery to conserve battery life.
First thing to check would be just that.
