Question about PC Laptops

Misunderstanding I think you have misunderstood ny D key issue. Its not the peice under the key it is the cover tha covers that and clips on to the holder under it. What i am needing is a replacement Key for the "D" key, not the wholekey pad. Sincerely SSG Raylon Johnson

While I didn't catch the whole thread, it sounds to me as though you might just be asking where to obtain an individual replacement key for your laptop's keyboard? Finding individual keys tends to be a lot harder than just replacing the whole keyboard. However, most big name computer repair businesses keep a stock of broken/old systems on hand that they can scrounge for just such parts. I'd say just call around to local stores - Best Buy/Geek Squad, Frye's, Staples, etc., and maybe even a few smaller shops, and ask them if they have on hand a key that would fit.

Replacing a key on a laptop keyboard is usually pretty easy; all you have to do is line up the key with its clips on the keyboard, and snap it in place. If you do find a replacement key, I would just buy the key, rather than have the store do the repair. Anyone can snap a key back in place, and it'll save ya forty bucks or so on labor.

Hope this helps!

Ah, good stuff! So best buy carries a pretty decent warranty, with a good replacement/repair service. Give the customer service line a call, 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289), see if they offer an overseas return option. I'm betting you'ld be shipping from a military or APO address, so they might have an option open to ya. If not, a more circuitous plan would be to send the laptop to a friend or relative in the lower 48, and have them drop off the computer for repair.

Alternatively, what's the make/model of the laptop? I can look through my own stuff, see if I might have something for ya...

Here, you might look into this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Gateway-4500-Series-...

This is an ebay seller offering individual replacement keys; just purchase one, then send the seller a message stating which key you need. Unfortunately, I don't have a key that would work, otherwise I would send it to ya.

How can I go into the BIOS of a Toshiba Satellite A45-S1202?

could be a bit cramped, sort of like showering in your watch!

Now to be serious, under neeath the toshiba is a small trap door with either a single or two screws. This is where the ram is contained. Undo this hatch and look for two pins ( might have to stand ram up or remove it) look for two small pins like a male plug You maqy have seen these types of pins before Sometimes covered with a little black square cap. Well these pins have no cap but if you short them across with a paper clip that will remove passoword to bios. replace ram, shut and rescrew the hatch and all is now ready for a new password or no password Now if I have misunderstood you and you just wantr to edit the bios on startup press F2

Please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA

How do you get the door open to install a battery in the satellite 1415-S173? I need to add more memory and I was told to first take out the battery. I can't get to the battery.

Hello !

Your laptop battery should just slide out. You may be thinking of the CMOS battery (silver, round battery). The external battery is easy to remove and it needs to be removed first.

Hope this helps.

Reinstalling a key cover

I know these can be a bit frustrating, but you're just going to have to keep working with it untill it snaps in properly. Unfortunately there is no diagram for these, if you're unsure that you have it together right, I suggest taking another key off to see exactly how it goes together.
