Question about DVD & Blu-Ray Players

1 Answer

RCA DRC630N-M 12v DC portable DVD player (dual-screen). After a year of successful plays on road trips, the device only recognizes commercial DVDs 25% of the time. It will spin and wind up to speed, but then we get a "DSC ERR" message on the screen. Discs are clean and unscratched. There does not appear to be anything on the laser or inside the device. Any ideas? Is this a matter for a repair shop?

You can clean if you open it. Just clean lens (eye) with ear stick weted with alcohol (not aceton!!!) and if it dont want to read after that, it require laser change.

I need warranty for portable dvd player from walmar

As far as I can tell this product hasn't been sold in years. If you bought it new and recently ask Walmart for warranty info. It would have had a 90 day or 1 year warranty when new.

Can't get the DVD player to read a DVD. Any DVD.

Hi, you are correct, the laser is perhaps dead its very common in all products these days.

You can check radioshack or a similar store for a generic replacement optical laser, there really easy to replace in most cases

DVD DRC630N

Hey, this looks familar. Here's the same answer (first)....

Sometimes this is a dirty surface on the Disk. Watching it with a soft cloth and non-abrasive 'gentle' dish soap can help. At least, that's what Netflix tells me to do with them.

If it's happening on EVERY disk, and all you're playing are commercial, new, pre-recorded DVDs, then there's more things to try. Some links from reputable sources:

After all that fails, it's probably time to change the DVD drive inside the player. Sometimes this is easy, sometimes not. :) with the DRC 630N, this would be more in the 'not' arena. :)

Of course, if you have a valid warranty, then when you're left with no solutions that don't void the warranty, you have to decide whether to try to pass it off to the warranty holder for repairs.

But, with more information....can you still play the games that this unit comes with? Assuming so, then the problem is probably one of alignment of the read sensor. This is generally a repairman fix.
