URGENT CALL:- Critical Error that keeps restarting system?

Hi there please help if you can.

I log on windows to access AOL, but in desktop, a little pop up box comes up saying "windows has encountered a critical error, we will restart your system in one minute - please save you work now"!! it then restarts, you log into AOL then within a minute the screen goes black and it restarts and the cycle begins again.

We use Windows Vista Basic and this is the laptop that you helped us with the other day with all that ActiveX problem that we had not playing the radio stream (if you recall lol)?

Ive contacts AOL techies, and they say that tis nothing to do with them, it seems to be a laptop issue causing the interference - please dont say that this a major issue as the laptop is less than 6 months old :-)

Please Please help if you can

sincerest blessings
Terry

Definately not a "major issue"... it is a Software issue rather than a Hardware issue...
And most likely a conflict with your ActiveX controls...

Try This....
Go to Start...Programs......Windows Update..enable if disabled.. and it will search for updates and hopefully install the SP1 update...
This update download apparently has patches for the exact error you have and that is a typical Vista "hiccup" error....

try that, if it doesnt help still, we can go from there..

Please Please Please is there a way to keep that totally aggravating AOL welcome screen from opening every time I log into aol desktop 9.7?

Right click on your taskbar and click "task manager". then click on the "more details" arrow and the window will widen. Go over to the "start up" tab and find AOL and disable it. If not that, there should be settings within AOL to keep that from happening.

Computer restarts randomly

If you are using Windows (XP, Vista or 7) then open the Computer properties by clicking on the Computer icon (on desktop or start menu) then go to the Advanced page tab and check if you have the option to automatically restart the system set on in the Startup and Recovery Settings section. If this is on, then Windows will restart the system any time that a critical error is encountered.

The other place to check is in the Windows Event logs (system log) provided this option is enabled.
You should be able to access the event logs by right clicking on the Computer icon and then selecting the Manage option followed by opening the Event viewer where you should look for any critical, error or warning entries that may occur at the times when the computer restarts itself (or posted immediately when it restarts).

My problem is my computer is always reastart in working my opareting system is windows 7

This sounds like a hardware issue, you need to check your error logs and see what is happening. Hard drives sometimes manifest errors like this. The Windows error logs are listed under the EVENT viewer, press start and type event. What you are looking for are errors or critical errors. warnings and information is of little concern. If these logs do not show errors, of significance, hard drive is suspect, again, as failure precludes the error being written to the disk.

Windows event log service wont start, error code 5

Your right its not a virus, and its not because your running one of the top anti- virus software, the problem is else where.
Have you checked the log files to see if you have permission?????
Have you checked event viewer to see if you have permission????

I need to know or the fix I have for you will not work.

AOL Hourglass

Download and install "Registry Mechanic" then do the updates prior to running it and removing anything for the first time. This will get rid of all your current Registry errors.

Try AOL again.

If AOL is still not working...

Un-install AOL.

Shut down completely for at lest 30 seconds, then restart.

Then do a search for all AOL files and folders with the options "Search system folders", "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search subfolders" checked. Delete all of those found.

Restart then run Registry Mechanic again.

Shutdown restart.

Reinstall AOL.
