Type 'Dell Support USA' or 'Dell Support UK' etc into google and click the link to the dell webpage that has the 'Software and Drivers' search facility.
Click the 'Enter a service tag' option and on the underside of the laptop, locate the service tag.
Type the service tag into the search box to locate the correct software to make your machine function correctly.
If your machine is unable to connect to the internet in its current state then use another computer and download the software to a flash drive or hard disk for transfer.
If you need Windows then look on the bottom of the machine for the licence sticker or 'COA sticker' and note the licenced operating system, i.e. Windows XP Home Edition.
If you do not have a copy of Windows (and it does not need to be a Dell version, a Microsoft version is the best option) then borrow it from a friend or download it from rapidshare.com or a Peer 2 Peer client such as Limewire.
During setup you will be asked for a licence key. Type the numbers on your licence sticker to verify your machine is entitled to run this software and once installed and connected to the internet Microsoft will activate your copy of Windows. After this is done install the downloaded Dell software and a antivirus program.

Please rate if this helped.

Install Windows 7, it comes with many drivers already. If you need one or other try into DELL website, very easy...

You'll need either the original restore cd/dvd's that came with it, or your own retail copy of operating system.
If its the latter and you dont have a copy then consider getting a Microsoft Authorised Refurbisher to refurb it for you, we get licenses for a fraction of the cost you could get them for, so the whole job of rebuildling the laptop would work out a lot less than what you would pay for just the operating system disk.
If you need us and are in one of our supported areas we are MCSLondon.co.uk - otherwise I am happy to reccomend a good company in your area.

What is the process for resetting factory setting?

Press and Hold CTRL + F11 when you see the blue bar at the top of the screen that has www.dell.com (this will be soon after powering on the machine). It will then display "Dell Recovery by Symantec Ghost" or something similar. Choose the restore option and then follow through the prompts.

Dell inspiron 6000 windows crashed

Oh boy... without disks, theres not much that can be done. the OS disk has diagnostics and repair capabilities. If your computer does not have a restore partition, then your best option is call Dell and ask for restoration software. it will likely set you back a couple hundred bucks, but you might be able to negotiate a lower price.

Need to restore pc to original settings, upgrade memory with 2gb memory card and restore my skype, email, etc

You can do a system restore by clicking start>all programs>accesories>system tools>system restore You can restore your computer to an earlier date just follow the instructions and restore it to the closest date to the date of purchase. You can also go on-line and order system restore disks from the manufacturer. The memory on a laptop is under a cover on the bottom of the laptop. Use a screwdriver to remove a cover and you can find the memory there. You should look up the make and model of the laptop to find out how much and what type of memory the motherboard / laptop will hold. Memory is easy to replace just pop out the existing chip and install the new on making sure you static discharge yourself before sticking your hands in it. You can usually do this by touching a metal case for a desktop that is plugged in or anything that is plugged in to a wall outlet and is grounded. When your finished, go to my computer. Right click and go to properties to see if your memory is being recognized by the PC. Then just re-install the apps. I hope this helps.

Dell inspiron 1300

Hopefully there is a restore point that you can have the computer restore from but here are the steps for you to do so:

Go to Start Menu > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

In the prompt, be sure to select that you want to "Restore to an earlier point" and follow the prompts to restore your computer.

My suggestion is that once you've successfully restored your system and it is working completely to your satisfaction, that you repeat the above steps and create a new restore point for the present date.

Try a system restore if it will allow you. If not you may need to run a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc.
