Have done that already....moreover sometimes explorer.exe hangs in the same way as mentioned above....

  • kd1985 Jun 12, 2008

    1) I have tried mozilla firefox, the problem occurs but not frequently as in Internet Explorer.

    2) Latest IE Updates installed and the problem still remains.

    3) No memory cards installed. only 1 RAM 256 MB

    4) if there are multiple applications running then explorer.exe uses 50% of the CPU, if i use many mfirefox eplorer then the firefox.exe takes up 50% CPU.

    5) Fans speed @ this time goes on Max.

    6) Even task manager is unable to end such process. I have manually shut down the system by pushing the power button.

    7) With IE, when i open a website and the IE is remained open for more than 5mins it starts using the 50% of CPU and my other applications running symultaniously gets no response from the CPU.

    8) After forcefull shutdown, while restarting the system it takes much more time than usual may be around 20-25 mins.

    Guyz please help!!!!

Try the following:

1) Make sure that you have all of the latest IE updates installed. You can visit the Microsoft website for this.
2) If there are multiple memory cards installed, swap them around to see if hte symptoms change. Windows does not handle memory errors well in the non-paged areas.
3) Try to see if there is a pattern to when this occurs. In other words, does this happen right away or only after the system has been on for a while?
4) Make sure that all of the fans are running. Excessive heat can cause symptoms like this.

Keep us posted.

Please note that while XP will run with 256Mb of main memory, it really wants more. I would suggest that you locate and install another 256Mb. That will "resolve" the problem. I believe that you are seeing a lot of CPU time consumed by paging. This is normal and perhaps more apparent now because of the updates which consume more over virtual memory than the "older" versions.

At this point, without examining the hardware, I'd look into replacing the RAM. Large amounts of CPU will be consumed to resolve memory issues that will get "charged" to the process that is currently running. So there are two items to try with this machine.

    1) Swap out the 256MB card with one from another machine that is running well.

    2) Check the motherboard, looking for capacitors that have bulged tops.

    Report back with the results.

Laptop hangs on logging off screen

try closing IE manually by opening task manager. right click on the taskbar> start task manager>processes>right click iexplorer.exe>end process. i would suggest you switch to chrome if the problem persists. usually however when a system hangs at logoff or shutdown it's because it has too many programs running. you should install an app that can help you manage which apps start with windows. i recommend CCleaner to do general pc cleanup as well.. when you have it running go to tools>startup to manage all those apps that bog down your computer.

Facing Problem in Internet Explorer

first make sure you have the most updated version (internet explorer 8) to check this, open internet explorer and click on the "help" button and from the drop down menu, click on "about internet explorer" it should show the name in big letters "internet explorer..." so ya. if you do have the current version, then try uninstalling it (start>control panel>add remove programs) and then reinstall it from the website here so assuming that you have done that, if it still doesn't work, i would recommend using a different internet browser, i personally love mozilla firefox (download here), but google chrome (download here) works well also...hope this helps.

You should try to test your memory (before windows boots.See download) to make sure the sticks are good. Download this. Next try using a program called Process Explorer to locate hanging modules of your computer. This will help you narrow it down.

I have intel gvsr motherboard hangs every 3 to 4 hrs

Dont overclock the CPU, and underclock the GPU and see what happens... This should solve it, along with adding a fan or two with a thermostat!
