It can usually be started in safe mode. Sometimes it boots right up and other times in will be stuck on the window xp boot screen.

My compaQ dx6120mt desktop initialising ram but not booting

when you boot does it pop up with any additional information such as "No bootable disk found" or "corrupt MBR"

If you get no bootable disk it is the HDD has failed
if you get Corrupt MBR then you need to reinstall windows

if nether of these appear and the system just hangs on the DOS start screen then it could possible be your RAM at fault

I lose video in the middle of the booting of my pc, but the computer is still on, and it just hangs there. What i been doing is just turning it off using the start button

Boot into safe mode, and check the resolution output of the video card. It sounds like you could be running a resolution that the monitor is not compatible with, or you have a bad video card driver.

How do I get into safe mode on a Dell Inspiron 531. PF 8 doesn't do it?I can only get into Setup with PF2. Otherwise the boot up only goes to the DELL screen and hangs there.

You cant get in safe mode because the PC hangs before windows ever try to start.

Try to press F8 multiple times but right after the Dell screen.
Some computer don't like that you press F8 while the bios is loading and just hangs there, maybe its your case.

My pc gets struck up suddenly forcing me to restart (windows xp

sounds like either a RAM or HDD issue. First thing is if you have 2 sticks of ram pull one out and see if it boots ok if not pull the other stick out and put first stick back in. If neither stick lets you boot then I would run a HDD test (some have them in bios) if you do not have it in bios boot windows into safe mode with command prompt and in command prompt type chkdsk /f

During your boot screen press the F8 key to boot into safe mode. If that gets you to the desktop run virus/spyware scans. Reply with any results.
