Question about Dryers

No hot air

My gas dryer is no longer putting out hot air. is there an easy solution and where do I troubleshoot first. My Maytag dryer tumbles, but there's no heat. In the past, I noticed a flame in a door towards the bottom of my dryer. Well, the flame is no longer there. I'm not sure how old it is, because it came with the house when I bought it a year ago. It's probably really old. How would I relight the pilot light on it? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks....

Where is the pilot light located? ( I can send a pic if it'll be helpful) Thanks.

If you have a pilot light (small flame) you can try to re-light it by turning the knob on the gas valve to the pilot position and pushing the knob down while lighting the pilot, you may have to hold the knob down for up to 30 seconds before releasing it. The pilot should stay lit and then turn the knob to the on position. If the pilot will not stay lit or the main burner will not light it could be the gas valve or the temperature sensor.

I just want to know how hot the clothes part getts in the maytag performance gas dryer does the regular mode reach 122 degrees

Dave, Dave here.
I would type Maytag into my box in the top of the computer screen and see if you can find the phone number of the Maytag factory service representative.
They might be able to tell you.
Another choice would be to put a thermometer ( like a candy thermometer) inside another dryer belonging to someone else and look at it when it is in the middle of a heat cycle. You would want to hang it inside somehow so it did not tumble and break.
Be blessed.

My dryer no longer heats

Small Diagnostics: is the gas line open, does the dryer still operate (tumble) but it does not heat, does the exhaust blow air out if so then the gas delivery, motor, vacuum motor are possibly working properly.

Issues might then be in the ducting or the heating unit, this is the schematic of the gas line, heating, and ducting within the core of the dryer: If you take a close look at number 16 which can be seen inside the tumbler, Sometimes the port/ matrix of small air vent can clog up due to lint. Make sure that vent is not blocked. This prevent hot air from coming into tumbler.

When a unit over heats or fails it could be related to the high limit thermostat which is a sensor that get tripped or blows when it reached its limit check and see if its fried/ burnt (number 17).

Diagram number 2:

This one contains or blown out thermostat fuses check and see if they are OK on diagram 2, Part number 8 Tstat and 10 thermal fuse.

Hopefully this help.

I have a Maytag Gas Dryer Model# MDG508DAWW. It comes on and tumbles but won't heat up. I bumped the back of it with my hand and it came on and got hot then a few minutes later it started getting cold...

This is usually the dryer coils have failed. They tend to fail as they heat up. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. Here is a link that should help Replacing the dryer coils

Dryer tumbles but no heat

I believe this unit has a hot-surface ignitor, and they work great, but do go bad eventually. The easy way to tell is to visibly see if the ignitor is operating during startup... can you get to it?
The hot-surface ignitor is easy to replace- (be careful not to touch it with fingers - like with halogen bulbs)

Will not dry

Does it get hot?
Dryers have 3 functions to perform:
Air flow
Controlled heat
Test for each, and fix the one that is not functioning. Remove vent tube to test for air flow.

Dryer turns on, tumbles, and blows air, but not hot air

take off the bottom toe kick
look to the back left of the cabinet
you should see the heat element, inspect all the connctions, this model ahs a habit of burning connections
if all is ok it probably your heating element ive included the sears part number for you
its ver easy to repair this
the heater runs less than 30 dollars

It runs but no there is no hot air

the first thing you want to make sure is that the igniter is working, remove the orfice on the front of the dryer, an start the dryer cycle, it should glow if it doesn't then you have a bad igniter, if the igniter glows an you have no heat (at all) you want to check the thermalfuse onthe dryer, check for continuity with a voltage tester it it beeps means is ok , if it doesn't pass current replace it,
if you get partial heat only then it would look into the coils, the 2 coils are inside on the front of the unit. coils are replace for the most when your dryer takes a longer cycle meaning it takes longer to dry or finishes an clothing still damp.

good luck.

Mytag Dryer ModelLdg4000Aw

I have a Maytag Atlantis Gas Dryer that will turn on, rotate, but will not get hot and dry the clothes. A load of clothes in the afternoon, didn’t dry, tried again but didn’t dry – went to bed after putting on auto dry - next morning the dryer was still rotating and didn’t turn off. No hot air – only cold air.

Maytag dryer does not maintain heat and clothes smell

Check coils on burner assembly. Often when a dryer heats initially and then stops heating a coils has gone bad.
