Almost the same problem.....But, what I had to do was replace the outer wash plate (long story) In doing so I had to remove the balance ring and the plastic ring that snaps into the tub.

The amount of grime in there was amazing !!! It may pay to open up the machine every year and give it a good cleaning. That will eliminate all odours. It's not that hard to open it up and unsnap the ring, it's well worth the trouble...believe me.

I hope this helps

I learned the vinegar rinse trick from an old appliance dealer and serviceman many years ago. I do not do it monthly but on an as needed basis. Also, on two occasions, we have cleaned under the gasket at the top of the basket using wet paper towells. There is another gasket at the top back of the machine and it can get a lot of grunge on it.

In addition, this weekend I realized that on rare occasions, a piece of fabric and get sucked under the plate at the bottom and rub against something down there. We were washing a piece of new fabric (about a yard square) by itself and it was gone when we opened the machine. I then ran another load and at the end of the wash cycle, found the end of the fabric sticking out between the basket and bottom plate. I was able to pull it out without damage and did find a couple marks on the fabric that came out.

Gray marks, streaks or smudges on clothing after a wash
cycle.
CONDITION:
CAUSE:
At the end of the cycle, the wash plate nutates for
approximately 30 seconds to fluff the clothing after the
final spin. The action of fluffing causes the outer wash
plate seal to rub against the stainless steel basket while
they are both relatively dry. This condition causes the gray
discoloration.
RESOLUTION:
An updated machine control, part number 8542693, is
now available. The updated control reduces the fluff time
from 30 seconds to 8 seconds, allowing the clothing to be
fluffed, without causing discoloration.
Gray marks or smudges can be washed out of clothing
after wiping down the basket. The consumer should use
the recommended amount of HE detergent and the hottest
water safe for the fabric or hand wash the garment under
running water. In either case, the fabric must be cleaned here it is tech 17

My Tromm washer is leaving residue on my clothes

Make sure you are using the correct soap. (Front load soap powder) Also use a bit less than suggested on the packet. If you are often using cold or low temp wash cycles, dirt and build-up in the machine will be common and come off on your clothes. Use a very hot wash at least once a month to clean it out and stop using fabric softener. It sticks to everything and any dirt in the water gets stuck on and then comes off in later wash cycles.

Clothes not clean after washing

Were the settings appropriate for the clothing?
The settings on the machine should be set properly for the load. Different fabric types require different wash/rinse temperatures, spin speeds, and wash times. Always follow the instructions printed on the fabric care label. The soil level needs to be set in accordance with the load type. Heavily soiled clothing will not come clean with a light soil level setting.
Was the proper detergent used?
If too much detergent is used, or non-HE detergent is used, the machine will not wash properly. Too many suds present during a wash decreases tumbling action and will not rinse out well. Furthermore, detergent residue built up in the machine over time will deposit extra detergent on clothes and deposit soil back into clothing.

Was the washer overloaded? If the machine is overloaded, the machine will not wash and rinse properly. When the washer is overloaded, the clothes have no room to tumble, and the cleaning performance of the washer is reduced. In addition, when the clothes are packed tightly inside the drum the detergent and water will not distribute evenly throughout the items.

Front loaders require regular maintenance to ensure optimum performance. If this maintenance is not followed, residue can accumulate in the drum resulting in detergent and soil being deposited back into clothing. This can also lead to odor and other issues. Perform the required maintenance regularly (once or twice a month).

Clothes sometimes have a sour smell to them after a wash cycle, already checked for mold in and around door gasket and found none. any ideas?

The bad news is that this is a fairly common problem for front load high efficiency washers. The good news is that there is a solution. First the facts. Using less water means you need to use less detergent. The new washers need to use HE detergent which is low sudsing. Use a very small amount and go by what is on the bottle or box of soap and even then reduce it a bit.

A residue can build up hidden between the drum and the basket. This residue is a combination of lint, detergent any softeners etc.

To remove the residue and odors that come with it, run a cycle with no clothes using the hottest water possible, usually a Whitest Whites or Heavy duty or something like that. In the tub put a pellet of 'Affresh' or a dose of 'Smelly Washer' both of these products are designed to remove the source of the odors. You can purchase these at most retailers like Target, Lowes, grocery stores etc near the laundry detergent. Do this once a month. If practical leave the washer door open when not in use, that will help air flow through there.

The washer emits a foul odor when washer first

You have the beginning of a detergent and/or softener residue buildup on the inside of the plastic outer drum of your clothes washing machine. Mold and bacteria need a moist, dark environment and a food source to grow. This residue is the food source. This can be a major health concern. See: http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=5408971n

We can't change the environment of the washer but we can lessen the "food source" by reducing detergent and fabric softener use.
Do an internet search on "Smelly Washer Reviews" to see what you can do about the problem of mold odor in your washer, towels and clothing.
After your washer odor is gone you'll need to change washing habits so mold and bacteria don't return. Go to the blog page at smellywasher.com to read the featured posts on the left side of the page on the cause of the problem and what to do for extreme cases of washer mold odor.

Black type residue being left on clothes

Hi there,

This is a common problem on washing machines, if you predominantly do cold washes.

Over a period of time, a washing machine will accumulate a buildup of Soap Scum (excess soap & softener residue) which can stick to the inside of the drum.

This black coloured soap scum occasionally breaks away from the drum, and attaches to the clothing fabric during the wash cycle.

You can rectify this, by doing the following:

Firstly, purchase a packet of CITRIC ACID from your local grocery store (usually found in the baking isle).

Do the following procedure before going to bed:

1) Do a HOT WASH without clothes (Hi water level, with HOT water) - allow machine to fill with hot water, then add the CITRIC ACID to the water. Allow the machine to complete a FULL wash cycle (i.e. allow machine to agitate for 30 mins or so, then drain).

2) Fill the machine again with the HOT water / CITRIC ACID solution, but this time allow it to sit in the bowl overnight (no cycle).

3) Next morning, set machine to spin & drain (i.e. to empty the solution)

4) Set machine to fill with FRESH HOT WATER ONLY (no citric acid), then set machine to spin & drain. This will flush all remaining residue left in the bowl.

Note: Soap scum residue is caused by using excess detergent/fabric softener. Hot Water flushing should be done every 6 months.

Contrary to what the detergent manufacturers state, you should follow Samsung's instructions by using HALF the recommended detergent.

Samsung machines prefer LOW SUDS, and you may find by reducing the amount of detergent used, you may even eliminate the buildup of soap scum.

My water has been smelling of sulfur. The clothes I was end up smelling of BO after being worn for only a short time. It isnt that the person is smell it is the clothing. Is there something to be added to...

I found that WasherFresh worked better then the Affresh.  What I really did not like is you cannot touch the Affresh tablets, WasherFresh is contained in a pouch and is not harmful to touch, because of the disolving pouch containing the chemicals.  Also after reading the package the chemicals are not harmful to the environment.
WasherFresh removed the odor causing buildup and I now use it monthly as a preventive maintenance.
