What type of Tamperproof Screw do I have TP3, Torx, Tri-Wing ?

Most of us know of the humble Flat-Head, Philips-Head, Pozidrive, Socket (Allen) and the now more widely used Torx Head as the most common type of screw head but what are the other types called and can you buy drivers to unfasten them ?

Here is a sample list of all those that you might come across
  1. Flat-Head (the most common)
  2. U-Shaped Head ( Flat-head with the middle missing)
  3. One-Way slotted (goes in with normal flat-head but can't be removed using a flat-head can come in Oval, Truss and Round)
  4. Philips (aka cross-head also very common)
  5. Frearson (similar to Philips with a narrower cross-head)
  6. Pozidrive (PZ similar to Philips but designed for more torque)
  7. Robertson (Square)
  8. Hex Socket (aka ALLEN Key)
  9. TORX ( 6-pointed star)
  11. TTAP ( similar to standard TORX there drivers can be used to insert TORX screws but not the other way round)
  12. Torq-Set (similar to Philips but the four arms of the cross are offset with respect to each other so a Philips wont fit)
  13. Tri-Wing (aka Tri-Blade)
  14. Opsit (reverse threaded Tri-Wing)
  15. Spanner (Snake Eyes)
  16. XZN (Triple Square)
  17. Polydrive (Castled)
  18. Splinedrive (similar to TORX 12-pointed star)
  19. DoubleHex (similar to TORX 12-pointed star)
  20. Bristol (Castled similar to Polydrive used in Avionics)
  21. TP3 (Triangle Recess Pan Head)
There are also Security versions of numbers 2 (Secure-Philips) 5 (Secure-Torx) that have a Pin-head in the centre I am sure there are other Pin-Head versions as well

I had a AC transformer that had a triangular recessed screw head and I had already tried to use a Tri-Wing screw driver but I began to shred the wings and I just couldn't find the name of it eventually found it to be a TP3 Tamperproof Screw

All you need do click on the screw-heads and they will turn and open up the name and type of screw it is.

Finding a screw driver that will open a TP3 is difficult to say the least I have a minor look on ebay as this is a specialist screw type and expensive

Another difficult type to get hold of the the Tri-Wing or Tri-Blade now common on all game stations from the Nintendo GameBoy to the X-Box

Touch screen is not responding and can not play any games.

Perform a recalibration as soon as you notice a problem, to prevent performance errors.

If the calibration problems do not go away you may need to contact Nintendo for technical service or if you think you can replace the screen you self i can give the process to do so...

How to Replace a Nintendo DSi Touch Screen

Finding someone to fix a Nintendo DSi touch screen can be time-consuming and costly. However, with the right tools, you can do it yourself. Even if you've never tried fixing anything until now.

things you'll need:

* Tri-wing screwdriver
* Precision Phillips screwdriver
* Precision flathead screwdriver
* New Nintendo DSi touch screen

Turn the Nintendo DSi over and find the five screws on the edges of the bottom. Take each one out with your tri-wing screwdriver. In the center you will find an additional screw that will need to be removed with a precision Phillips screwdriver. This keeps your battery in place.

Take the battery out. Underneath it you will find two screws that must be removed with the tri-wing screwdriver. After both have been taken out, pull up on the bottom casing to access the motherboard. In order to replace a Nintendo DSi touch screen, this will have to be removed.

Detach the right and left buttons in the top corners by pulling up. Underneath each one will be a spring---make sure you don't lose these. Then remove the four screws in the middle of the motherboard with the precision Phillips screwdriver.

Look for the ribbon attached on the bottom left corner of the motherboard. Take a precision flathead screwdriver and pull up on the black bar that connects the ribbon. You should be able to slide it out by pulling back.

Find the two small connectors that are locked in with two tiny clips on each one. Lift up on all four clips to pull out the underlying connectors. Take out the motherboard and turn it upside down. Now you are ready to replace your DSi touch screen.

Detach the Nintendo DSi touch screen with your fingernails. Pull it away from the adhesive, one side at a time. Take the new screen and peel away the protective plastic before replacing it. Line it up where the old touch screen was and reassemble the Nintendo DSi.

Hope it helped...

The screw on my blackberry 8320 is totally stripped and wont move at all there is absolutely no can i remove it without damaging the phone

If you're not using proper and exact screw driver on removing screw, screw head will be deform,be sure to use choose exact and fitted one to avoid losing the thread.Be sure to use precision screw drivers.

In my case if i got this problem, i am using a bit size of screw driver (for example T6 making it T7) then put a mid force downwards counter clockwise and twist it little by little until it moves all the way.

otherwise, if you're getting hard or unscrewing it,you need to melt the sorround area using a soldering iron and use a small size long nose plier to release or screw up .

Hi I cracked the screen on my toshiba Satellitle L670-10N and have ordered and received a replacement. However, when trying to remove the broken screen, I cannot unscrew the screw on the bottom of the...

The screen portion of the laptop should be removed from the keyboard portion. There should be screws in the back of the laptop, or under a removable plastic piece directly about the keyboard. This will have to come apart anyway, because you have to remove the video cable from the mother board to replae the screen anyway.

How do you change the wing mirror on a vauxhall combo van 2003 complete unit

Lucky You, I can’t wait to get back to Europe, home actually, anyways your vauxhall 2003 combo van. Take your door panel off, start with armrest, unscrew it, these screws are right under the area you would be resting your arm on, this area is seen by large holes, these can be deep so a long medium Philips should be used.

Nest is door handle to unlock door, you have plastic cover or metal, some have a small screw or slots to fix it securely. Unscrew or use a thin small screw driver to gently pull each slot from panel or lock mechanism. Now your window is most likely manual, so I will explain this first, two ways these are secured, the handle you use to roll window up and down, a screw right in the middle, just unscrew or a ring clip, this is between the door panel and handle and is removed by a special tool made to do this or a screw driver on one side of clip, a quick tap with your hand on top ot screw driver or by prying from the top of the inside of ring between gear and clip.

Your door panel uses snaps generally, but some have screws where snaps would be as well, around the outer edges of the door panel , if snaps are used gently use a wide instrument rather the your fingers, this can break fittings of panel, so use a wide flat instrument, a large screw driver or a mini crow bar used to pull nails.

If speakers are mounted, be careful not to rip speaker wires, just pull the wire fasteners from the side of magnet, remember their location so you reinstall them correctly.

Now with a flashlight look under and up to see your mount base for wing window, remove the fasters and pay attention to the top pivot for wing window, most of them are pins and easily removed by a slightly sideways downward slowly pulling down, careful not to bend pivot slot or pivot pin. Some have also been secured by a screw on the top of door frame where pivot is mounted. Which is an obvious dismantling procedure, remove fastener, usually a screw, another Philips of some sort star screw or an alien screw. That’s it now your wing window should be free and in your hands. The reverse to install a new wing window. Good luck

Replacing driver side mirror

Take off side door panel, screws securing it are revealed, unscrew screws remove them and and the mirror drops off. If the wing mirror is on the bodywork, then the screws should be either in the wheel arch or under the bonnet.

Rear turn signal

If it's a Malibu Maxx, there will be no wingnut to take off. Just unscrew the the two screws you can see (and that the book tells you) and pull back. The entire piece comes out - so be prepared for that.

Mine stuck a little on the bottom but after wiggling a bit - I grabbed the part that the screws came out of and it came out REALLY easy. It's the middle bulb. When done - just put it back in place and line the screws up.

This is the first time that I've ever had to remove the entire piece like you have to do on the Maxx - but once you get past that and the worry about breaking it - you'll be fine.

Fiesta 2001 driver's wing mirror

It's basically a case of taking the door panel off! (This is for driver and passenger sides). Firstly remove the screw holding on the black plastic cover where the mirror adjustment control is and remove the black plastic surround. There is also a circular piece of plastc behind the mirror adjuster, make sure you remove this (turn anticlockwise) otherwise you won't get the mirror out later on! Next remove the screw from the door bin, inside the recess in the arm rest part of the door panel and from behind the door handle surround. Carefully slide the door handle surround off (first towards the front of the car and then towards you). Once the surround is off carefully unclip the speaker wire from the back.

Once you've done all this you are ready to go - the door panel itself is held on by plastic poppers, there are around 2 either side and 3 at the bottom. Carefully unclip all of these so that the panel is loose. Then slide the panel up (there is a plastic fitting at the top of the panel which sits in the gap where the window is). The panel will now come away - be careful not to rip any of the thin foam like lining of the panel and also of the wires going to the speaker.

There are 2 more screws which hold the wing mirror on - unscrew both of these and the wing mirror will now come off. Make sure you keep the sponge padding as you will need this to help you hold the new mirror controls in place. Then its quite simply a case of fixing the mirror on with 2 screws and refitting everything in reverse of taking it off.

Good luck!
